    I have read a lot about this free MPEG editing software so I decided to give it a try, however when I attempt to open my MPEG file it does not have an option for this file type. The only thing it allows is mpv, m1v & m2v. What did I do wrong or missing here. Thanks in advance.

    you must demux the mpg video into video and audio streams first, https://www.videohelp.com/faq#demultiplex
