  1. I have a Sony TRV33 and I am trying to transfer to VHS (I know, but there is a reason!). When playing the DV through my VCR using the a/v connector supplied (via a scart adapter), playback through the TV is excellent.

However, when playing back the VHS recording, the picture is black & white & v grainy (sound appears ok though).

I have tried a S-VHS lead, different VHS tapes and different VCRs - all with same result.

    Please help!

You're not that special. Use regular subject headers Colors, underlines, bolds ... those don't work in titles. Just makes an ugly mess we have to clean up.

As you are in the UK and your vcr has a scart connector that suggests standard UK PAL equipment. However, you say you have a Sony TRV33. Is it a TRV33 or a TRV33e? The 33 is a US spec NTSC camcorder whereas the 33e is a European spec PAL camcorder. If you have an NTSC camcorder your TV can probably cope with an NTSC signal via the scart socket (most can) but your vcr can't. This would explain the grainy black and white image you are seeing.

If this is the problem, you may be able to get around it by connecting the camcorder to one scart socket on the TV and connecting the vcr to another scart on the TV. Set the vcr to record from it's scart socket and (if you are lucky) the TV will output a PAL signal which you can record.
