N.Y. Teacher Accused of Raping Boy
ALBANY, N.Y. — A 42-year-old teacher at a Catholic school who was charged with rape for allegedly having sex with an underage male student posted a $20,000 bond Tuesday and was released from jail.
Authorities said Sandra Beth Geisel had sex with four students from the Christian Brothers Academy in Colonie, N.Y., but in three of the cases the boys were 17-years-old and therefore were legally able to give their consent. Geisel faces sexual assault charges for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old boy.
John Aretakis, who has represented alleged victims of clerical sexual abuse and is now the lawyer for a 17-year-old CBA student who allegedly had sex with Geisel, said the school ignored her "bizarre and irresponsible behavior" for months. Geisel, a mother of four, was fired from the school in June. She was on the school's payroll first as an English teacher and then as a volunteer in the school's writing lab.
Police in Cohoes, a town adjacent to Colonie, responded to a resident's call June 11 about a suspicious parked car. Police said they found Geisel and a 17-year-old student inside the car. About a week later, the school sent a letter to parents about the alleged affair, though officials didn't identify the teacher. Officials said they'd found the conduct inappropriate.
After reports of Geisel's dismissal spread, a 16-year-old student, at the urging of his parents, reported to Colonie police that he'd had two sexual encounters with her, according to the Troy Record. "If [Geisel] were a man, she'd likely be referred to as a predator," said Colonie Police Chief Steven Heider.
Geisel faces 16 years in prison.
Heider said Geisel first had sex with the 16-year-old the night of May 15 in her Latham home, and then again on the night of May 28 in the press box at the school's football field.
Signed statements by the boy and others describe a number of sexual encounters involving the former teacher.

Only one 16 year old boy was "raped" by her ... and she deserves to go to prison for it. But why bring up the fact she was with five 17-year-olds if being with a 17-year-old is considered consentual behavior? Sounds like a slanted article to me.

I know we have to draw a line somewhere, but going to jail for years because one was 16, however if they were all 17 nothing would be done... just seems a little silly. Sure, punish her, but I think prison is a little much. That kid knew what he was doing.
He's a minor in this case, but I bet if he did something wrong, they'd try him as an adult.
Farked up system.

True story. When I was about 10, I went over to a friend's house to play and had to take a piss. So, I went to their bathroom and was in the middle of taking a leak when my friend's mom swung the bathroom door open, smiled, and whispered, "Need any help?" I shook my head no. She giggled, closed the door, and left. While all those other groups I mentioned may not exist as groups, I suspect lechery has been going on for a long time on both sides of the sex equation.

Granted, the woman should have a little more sense, but to dump all of this on her... BS.

The attorney representing the former Christian Brothers Academy teacher who stands accused of raping a 16-year-old student said Wednesday that the student may have taken advantage of the teacher.
Attorney Donald Kinsella said, "it's a bad situation for everyone involved and whatever she did, if anything, with the 16-year-old may not have been consensual on her part."
His client, 42-year-old Sandra "Beth" Geisel, who completed an in-patient alcohol treatment program at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany and is attending daily AA meetings, may have been drunk on the night of the alleged rape, Kinsella hinted.
The victim's statement, however, indicates there was more than one encounter, and the Albany County District Attorney's office filed two felony rape charges against the mother of four, with another likely on the way, for an encounter the two allegedly had in Ravena.
The specific charges will be determined by a grand jury that will meet in the near future.
"A defense attorney has a job to do but we all know who the adult is here," said Richard Arthur, a spokesman for Albany County District Attorney David Soares. "We are investigating all allegations, interviewing all witnesses and want to be completely thorough."
According to the victim's statement to police, he and Geisel allegedly had sex at Geisel's 12 Long Shadow Drive home, in the press box at the CBA football field while other students listened, and, it was revealed Wednesday, at a home in Ravena.
Geisel spent Monday night in jail after returning from New Jersey to turn herself in to Colonie Police. The estranged wife of Thomas Geisel, a Key Bank president, is free on $20,000 bail.
Trouble began for Geisel, an employee at CBA for about a year, last month when Cohoes Police caught her in the back seat of a car with a 17-year-old student. Since that student and another CBA student the statements claim she had sex with are of legal age to consent, there were no charges.
All three are juniors at CBA, as is one of Geisel's children.
Shortly after Cohoes Police broke up the tryst, CBA fired Geisel and sent a letter to parents informing them of the incident. However, some parents are upset because the school did not move quickly enough. Since the initial incident did not include criminal charges, there was no investigation and relatively little press.
But, when the 16-year-old came forward and the details of the teacher's alleged sexual exploits with the three teens became public, the story sent the media into a frenzy, making national news.
In a press release issued by CBA, the school claims a yearbook picture was shown on television that allowed viewers to identify students, one media outlet offered money to a student to meet with a reporter in a hotel room, and one member of the media offered to pay the sister of a CBA student if she could get her brother to talk.
It does not mention anything about the incident or other reports, including one that claims that when the school became concerned about students spending too much time in Geisel's windowless office with the door closed, school officials installed a window.
Kinsella said, to his knowledge, the window was installed in the area because of another incident that did not involve his client.
Meanwhile, while attorney John Aretakis - who has given a round of television, radio and newspaper interviews - claims he represents one of the 17 year olds, Kinsella said "we are aware of two 17 year olds and I know who represents each of them and neither is represented by Aretakis, so I don't know who he is representing."
Aretakis, however, said he represents a third 17-year-old victim.
"Kinsella has been spreading that rumor because he is trying to find out how many more victims will come out against his client," said Aretakis, who made a niche representing victims of clergy sex abuse. Alcohol trouble cited in sex case
A former teacher at Christian Brothers Academy, who posted bail Tuesday on charges of having sex with an underage student, was arrested for drunken driving in December and has been struggling with alcoholism, her lawyer said.
"She did an in-house rehabilitation at St. Peter's and is going to AA meetings every day," he said. The treatment began after she left CBA, he said.
The mother of three sons and a daughter was fired in mid-June from the all-boys school where she had worked as an English teacher and later ran the school's writing lab. Her dismissal followed a Cohoes police investigation after she was found in a parked car with the 17-year-old student.
Six months earlier, on Dec. 18, she was arrested at 11:15 p.m. for driving while intoxicated on Route 9 near Century Hill Drive in Colonie. Two days later, she pleaded guilty to driving with ability impaired, a violation, according to Colonie Justice Court records. She was fined $300 and had her license lifted for 90 days.
"There's no question that anybody who knows anything about this ... alcohol is a factor in her situation," Kinsella said.
District Attorney David Soares feels differently. "I certainly don't believe that alcohol or depression are mitigating factors in this case."
Geisel faces two felony counts of third-degree rape involving the 16-year-old who could not legally give consent. She also faces two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child. A conviction on the statutory rape count carries 1 /3 to 4 years in prison.
A grand jury will next hear the case, but that won't happen this week, Soares said. His office will continue to investigate, and he gave no timetable for the grand jury.
After the Cohoes incident became public, the boy went to Colonie police.
A letter was sent to all parents of CBA students, and since then, "no students have come forward and notified us (the school) of any alleged improper activity by (Geisel)," said Brian Culnan, an attorney and member of CBA's board of trustees.
Geisel's husband, from whom she is legally separated, is a banker. He has custody of their children.
Sandra Geisel, who grew up in Tennessee, had most recently been living in New Jersey but won't return there. She'll find a home locally, Kinsella said.
"It wouldn't have been a good idea to go back to New Jersey," Kinsella said. "The hounds from the press are onto the friend where she was staying, and knocking on neighbors' doors."
Geisel surrendered to Colonie police Monday. She spent the night in jail, where Sheriff James Campbell said she had a correction officer guard her all night. Incredibly, she's not the only teacher gone wild lately.
In Miami, a middle-school reading teacher is charged with having sex with a 14-year-old student.
According to her attorney…24-year-old Debra Lafave was under such emotional stress that she didn't know right from wrong when she had sex with the 14-year-old boy…numerous times.
Students have been supporting her - by spray painting the school many times :

Indiana school aide had sex with special ed students
AUGUST 10--Meet Amber Kay Marshall. The 23-year-old Indiana teacher's aide is the latest educator to get busted for allegedly having sex with underage male students. Marshall was charged Monday with child seduction and sexual misconduct with a minor for her alleged trysts with special ed students at Hebron High School. According to investigators, Marshall's encounters with the three boys spanned 14 months, beginning in March 2004, and occurred at her home, a Super 8 motel, and in a parked car. Marshall, who was charged in June with similar crimes in a neighboring county, faces more than 30 years in jail if convicted of the felony abuse counts.
