you might try bit tornado. it has an adjustable upload speed.. if you max out your upload speed it will severly decrease your download speed.. i usually leave my torrents uploading about 4 or 5 k below my max upload speed so i will get full download speed..

No. Properly configured router with opened and forwarded ports. And a good and properly configured Bit Torrent program is all you can do.

That software sounds like crap. Go get a real BT client like Azureus or one of the easier to setup ones.

Bit Comet works for me. You can fine tune it a little, but you won't gain much in the way of speed. I don't like Azureus as it uses Java, which I don't trust, but I admit it's easy to set up, especially with firewalls.

Setting up more connections and more half-open connections help, but your ISP won't like it.

If you really want the best speed, use a good program and study their forums. You will find the best recommendations there.

I'll second this, I've been using Bit Tornado for years and I love it.

I experimented with this when it first came out but couldn't get on with it at all, is it worth a second look ?

yep you can dramatically increase your torrent downloads the same way you can eliminate traffic on the way to work...you'll have to exterminate lots and lots of people, however.

There are some people who will just never like Azureus, either because its a java app (memory whore) or because of its complicated settings.

However those who "tough it out" often find there is a reason its used by alot of people.

i've been using BIT TORNADO. the sped for my connection is 1-2 kbs. i don't have a high speed internet and is using dial up connection. that's why my speed is so slow. i guess that we have to have high connections in order to increased the speed. oh darn!!

lilcuteeguh if you are on dialup, then that's the real problem. P2P needs a lot of bandwidth for the most efficiency. A 4GB file would take days and days on a 56K connection.

Maybe someone here has a P2P program suggestion that would work better on dialup?

I guess my problem with Azureus besides Java is it punches holes through my firewalls and that makes me nervous. Yes, that makes it easy to use, but I value security more than convenience. I would just as soon reduce my exposure to outside influences as much as possible, even at the cost of speed. I disable UPnP and use a proxy server. Azureus seems to go right around this.

Maybe I'm just paranoid or maybe they really are out there trying to get me.

P2P= Peer to Peer. The usual method of filesharing over the internet.

There are a lot of filesharing clients. Some such as BitComet use 'torrents' to locate and download the files. Used primarily for large files, such as video. Azureus uses the same method, just the program works differently.

Other popular P2P programs for smaller files are Emule or similar.

Audio, such as MP3s use a program like Napster.

You can see a listing of some P2P clients here:http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Internet/Clients/File_Sharing/

As you can see, there are quite a few. We all have our favorites.

Many of these programs are used to download copyrighted or illegal files, which we do not discuss here. This is a strict rule and violations will get you banned. But you can discuss the P2P programs, though this is a video forum and you will get much better details from P2P sites.

  15. Azureus is a good BT client, it connects to torrents that other clients can't. But, it is a horrible resource hog, often taking 100% CPU time and a hell of a lot of RAM. I used all the steps suggested by the FAQ, but never could get it lowered to an acceptable level. I think my machine is decent, at least enough to run Azureus (see specs in Computer Details).

Have you not read anything posted in this thread ?

It's all about the configuration settings

I've used Azureus and BitComet, and had both running successfully. However I lean towards BitComet, mainly because it is a bit more straight-forward and just easier to do certain things that both clients can do.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I assume your talking about this UPNP crap, because if your not then I have no clue what you mean.

if you are, just disable the UPNP plugin. Whoever thought that standard up should be shot.
