I've got a real dilema and I'm hoping someone here may have come accross this before.
I've got the "my computer" folder open
I connect my sony vx2000 via firewire the camera shows right up as a device. I then disconect the vx2000 and connect a sony digital 8 camera to the same cable but it dosen't show up
I then connect my JVC DVD recorder up to the same cable dosen't show up. Both devices are turned on.
Reconnect the VX 2000 to the same cable and it shows right up.
I get the exactly the same results on 3 different computers.
Yesterday all 3 devices would show up. I can't figure out what happened.
I can connect my removable firewire drives to the same port and they show up no problem.
Has anyone heard of this happening before? Any ideas?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I've heard it's not healthy to the PC for you to hot-swap several different FireWire devices so quickly. Try rebooting and trying one of the other devices that wasn't recognised after your first mentioned device. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried rebooting as well as trying the same 3 devices in 2 other PCs with the same results. The Digital 8 camera and the JVC recorder are not recognized while other devices are.
I am trying to figure out how it.s possible for 2 different firewire devices to stop communicating with the firewire ports in 3 different computers
It just dosen't make sense -
Just understand all these problems exist at the DirectX level. DirectShow is the interface for IEEE-1394.
Make sure your DirectX is up to date and functioning.

Thanks for the directx tip. I did download the latest version 9c but I still have the same issue.
Although the sony digital 8 and the jvc recorder are not seen in windows. a daisy chain of FW Hard drives, and a vx2000 camera shows up without any issues.
Is there a way to "shortout" the firewire capability of the camera and JVC recorder?
Thanks
