  1. Well I'm trying to rip a dvd to video into mpeg format (still having DVD quality, have converted it to Divx but when converted back to DVD the quality loss was noticible). So I can edit it. (cutting clips from the mpeg file).

Any help doing that will greatly help me.

Oh and if it can be done with freeware or a cheaper program ($100) that would be best. (Can maybe stretched to $300, because i plan on editing more family videos.)

    Thanks,

    Ty Welcome

    Hi TyWelcome,

The VOBs ripped from a DVD are effectively "containers" for the video and audio, as well as menus, subtitles etc.

So, in short, the MPEGs that you're after are in the VOBs - the phrase you need to search on is either "demux" or "demultiplex" (the first being a lazy way of saying the second).

It can be done, and I believe that there are freeware tools out there to do it.

    I hope that helps some...

    No problem.

Just for the benefit of any others who stumble across this thread, can you share what you found (tools, guides etc.)?
