  1. Hi, i am looking to do quite a bit of video editing for a home movie. However i was hoping to use scenes from dvd films etc and incorporate it into the movie. Also i was wanting to maybe change or add subtitles to it too. I dont know if its possible but i was also wanting to maybe change the face of the actors from the dvd movie and add my own picture??

Basically this is the kind of thing i was hoping to do and i would really appreciate if anyone could recommend what software would be best to complete such or similar tasks with best results.

I would also like to change audio etc too, so something that could do all this would be great.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Hi hassali,

The short answer is that there's probably not going to be just one piece of software that will suit all your needs.

    Video editing:
Mac - Final Cut Pro (probably others too).
PC - Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, there are others, some are cheaper.

    Subtitles:
Can be done in a video editor, but they'll be permanent.
Usually done in authoring, using somehting like DVDLab (or DVDLab Pro). There are others.

    Audio:
Good video editors have reasonable / basic audio editing functions. But best to get a dedicated tool.

One option: Sound Forge. There's also Audacity, Goldwave, and something from Ulead (forget it's name). There are others.

As for including shots from DVDs, your video editing software would need to support MPEG2, or you'd need to convert the MPEG2 to DV AVI.

As for putting your face onto an actors face - I guess it'd be possible in video editing software, but I really do dread to think how long it'd take to learn how to do it, let alone actually doing it ang then making it look good... Good luck on that one...

What you want to do, for the most part, is achievable - but be prepared to do lots and lots of reading, learning, head scratching etc. before you get into it, then be prepared for frustration and problems until, finally, you get something you like.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.
