  1. Hi, I would like to know what the best process is for taking a commercial DVD you own - extracting specific scenes you want - and then re-burning them on a newly authored disc - all while keeping the same high-quality of the original transfer.

I'm somewhat familiar with the more popular DVD and video conversion/authoring programs but if somebody can sort of lay out their own definitive version of how they do this - that would be great.

Right now all I can think of is this:

    1. Extract DVD vob files from original disc with DVD Decrypter.
    2. Make a Divx file out of the necessary vobs by using DVDx or some other programs.
    3. Edit the scenes you want in TMPGEnc and covert them to DVD Mpeg files.
    4. Import those files, reauthor and burn new DVD with a program like Sonic MyDVD or something.

However, I would NOT even know what settings of the above programs I should use to be able to retain high picture quality, etc.

    Somebody help me out here...

Don't make a divx just to reencode. That will definately lose quality. Frameserve the file with avisynth or dvd2avi or it's replacement... I think it is called dgindex or something.

  3. ^^^OK, I'll see if I can learn about that and I'll start trying it...

But is it true that I definitely should do the three other steps as stated?

You could even open the vob in virtual dub mod and edit it there then frameserve from there to tmpgenc.

    2. edit in virtual dub mod and frameserve to tmpgenc
    3. encode your "filename.vdr" in tmpgenc
    4. author using the software of your choice

  6. Hmmm, Ok, well, I'll have to learn about "frameserving" - haven't done that before. I do use ViirtualDubMod though (and obviously TMPGEnec). Guess I'll figure it out. Thanks.

Frameserving is just sending the edited file directly to the encoder without having to save an intermediate avi file.

Once you have the vobs ripped to your HD you can then load and edit them in TDA, (ADD DVD FILE) you dont need the divx conversion.

If the vob files are from the same DVD then DVDShrink will do this in RE-AUTHOR mode.

Both quick simple and 100% quality.

Start with DVDShrink and work from there. Check out MrBass's guide to DVDShrink (Re-Author mode) if your new to this:
