I got a Panasonic PV-GS120 not too long ago and I was messing around with it today..when I played back what I had recorded there was one spot where the video kinda stuttered just for a little bit...I rewound it and played it again and it stuttered at the same exact spot..I have about 10 minutes of video before that that plays perfectly and a few minutes afterwards that also plays smooth. The tape is brand new....I have an example of the anomaly in the clip here:

    www.dlvee.com/test.avi (xvid compression)

It stutters as I pan from my side over to the drivers side..just as i'm crossing over the rear view mirror. This stutter was not introduced in the capture phase..it does this when I play the tape straight out of the camera.
what are the possible causes of this and how should I remedy it? I can NOT have this happen when I'm filming a wedding!

    thanks.

Looks like the camera's handheld stabilization or anti-vibration kicked in. I have no doubt it was turned on, as your camera would have shaken a lot more in a moving car, being handheld like it was.

I'll have to agree with LS. On a side note I did my cousins wedding for him, it came out great. So good I've had many requests, I've turned them all down because I don't have two cams. I'd suggest you think about that before taking on a professional jobs.

Thanks for the reply's guys. My EIS was turned off because I heard so many bad things about how awful it was compared to OIS (which this camera does not have)..Is anti-vibration another feature of the camera that is built-into the camera?

well it's certainly not a professional job :P..i know what i am and what i'm not when it comes to this kind of thing. I did the wedding video for my brother in law and another person just as a favor and these people saw what i did and asked me if I would do theirs as well and offered to pay me for my time...what i'm making off the whole production is far from a professional fee as well . I certainly understand why 2 cameras would be beneficial!

I guess i was just surprised to see that little glitch on a brand new tape and worried that this might happen periodically..i'm brand new to miniDV so I'm sure theres several other things I don't know...I do know how painful it is to see your pristine dv file get further compressed to an mpeg2 DVD ..although @ 9000kbps the difference is minimal, you can just tell it isn't exactly how it was before...

    thanks again

No. I think it was on. There is almost no way it could have been off. If it said it was off, then it's broken. Because there's no way you could have handheld the camera that still in a moving car.

Tape slipped? Impossible, not how the tech works.

    ok ok

I actually went back and edited my post right after posting because i didn't want to sound like i was dictating the problem when i know very little about it..as long as it isnt' something "wrong" i'm pretty happy.
