  1. Hi, sorry if this is too basic but I want to rip DVD's to my computer, cut out commercials and reburn them on dual layer discs (the DVD recorder I have hooked to my TV doesn't burn DL but it plays back DL & my DVD burner in my computer burns DL so...).

The problem is that most software I've downloaded like DVD Lab & Video Edit Magic are over my head and the likes of Adobe Premiere seem to require higher screen resolutions than my monitor will allow (I can only do as high as 800 x 600 for a screen resolution on my monitor).

So can someone recommend software for me where I can do that simple kind of editing, with that screen resolution, without the video/audio synch problems & easy for a newbie like me to use (preferably at a lower cost than Adobe Premiere too)?

I don't mind paying more IF IT MEANS I can do what I hope to as listed above, so just thought I'd ask.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    John

Given that full resolution for NTSC is 720 x 480, and PAL 720 x 576, you are running at quite a disadvantage. Most software should run at this resolution, but because everything will have to be scaled down, accuracy and detail will suffer. Either that, or you will have to do a lot of scrolling. If your main aim is just cutting commercials and simple authoring, start with something like mpeg-vcr for editing (cuts commercials without having to reencode, and is pretty good with audio sync) and tmpgenc DVD Author for menus.
