  1. Hi. I am trying to backup Boy Meets World Season 2. I enter the DVD and do an analysis. I try to re-author it and do a full backup but whatever i do it is always too big to burn. I removing and audio track and it worked.. except that when i played it in a dvd player there was no audio.

I am using DVD Shrink 3.2. is there anything i can do, or another prog i can use? thanks!

How are you reauthoring it ?
Do you leave compression set to Automatic ?

You can either use reauthor mode to split the disk but putting some on one disk and the rest on another, or you can run it through shrink and output to your HDD, then load this version into shrink and shrink it again. This will of course impact quality.

You shouldnt need to re-author it at all.

Sorry if this is basic......but i not sure which bits you are doing and which you arent.

PS this is assuming you are not burning to a DL disc.
    • Open shirnk
Point it to the relevant location.
      Wait for the analysis.
On left hand side ensure that top line is highlighted.
On right hand side (bottom section) deselect any languages unrequired.
On right hand side (middle section) deselect any audio streams that are not requried.
On right hand side (top sections) change compression to manual, and move slider so that the size of the backup (as displayed on green / red bar above) is a maximum of 4400Mb.
      Then hit backup and wait.
Then burn with your favourite burning app
(If you are burning to a DL disc, you could use Decrypter and do a disc to disc copy.)

Personal experience taught me that running something thru Shrink a second time makes little if ANY difference.
I had it suggested to me shortly after i started in this game, but found it made so little differnce, it wasnt worth the time, so i found other methods.

  4. thanks for your help.. compression is set to automatic. I deselected all foreign languages and the audio streams that i dont need. I tried backing the compression down to 50% instead of 52.8% but it will not take anything lower.

Rather than setting the whole disk to "Automatic" try clicking on the "Extras" and "Menu" folder. You may be able to reduce the compression of these further allowing you to make the compression down to a D5 DVD. You could also use something like VOB Blanker to remove one or two of the extras that you won't miss.

EDIT: You may also want to split over two disks - the quality won't be great trying to compress over 7.5 hours of footage onto 1 D5.

Some guides HERE... for D9 to two DVDR

Or just Re-author in DVD Shrink if you don't mind loosing the menu.

I assume you are asking about the re-author mode in DVD Shink? No, chapters are retained. But as I said before I wouldn't try to put 7 hours of footage on one D5 DVD - you will be in the exact same situation as you are now!

It is very easy to just put 3 or maybe 4 episodes per disk and re-author with DVD Shrink. If you wanted a menu of some description TMPGEnc DVD Author is an easy programme to create your own menu (there is even a 30 day free trial). On the downside TMPGEnc DVD Author only supports one audio track and no subtitles.

Alternatively look at the other guides I pointed you too before

Ok that answers the original problem. You are getting too big errors because that is the maximum compression that Shrink can achieve.

As stated above 7.5 hrs is hella lot to squeeze onto one single layer disc.

If you arnet bothered about quality you could re-author and loose the extras etc Or could set the extras to stills in the compression (highlight the extras on the left hand side and change tyhe compression, you will then have different compressions for different sections of the disc, but it [i]should] then fit on a single layer disc

If however you are bothered by quality, then i would highly recomend splitting over two discs....

  11. Try sending it through Menu Shrink first, then try again in DVD Shrink.
