I would recommend AnyDVD and DVD Region+CSS Free.

You may want to consider using a hacked firmware to make your drive region free. Check out:

Which DVD drive(s) do you have?

it is the DVD ROM of my laptop(Sony vaio)

why would i need to use hacked firmware. isn't there software which could do the job.

my concern with installing firmware, is that you do run the risk of corrupting the firmware in the first place, correct

Using a hacked firmware is just one of the options. Its a free alternative. If you dont want to take the risk, there are softwares alternatives.

AnyDVD, as I mentioned will work for any dvd drives with no risks involved. DVD Region + CSS Free is another one.

You forgot probably the best (and surprisingly least known about) solution.

    DVD Region Killer v2.7.0.2

It is by far the smallest, simplest and least resource heavy region disabling software solution. Quite old now and not being updated anymore and not available from any official website, but still very effective. With it active, you'll never have to even think about region encoding ever again.

The only downside - if you can call it that - is that you will have to use a hacked firmware to disable the region encoding built into the drive hardware. After that, DVD region killer will take care of all your software players no matter what flavour disc you want to play.

How about DVD43 as a free alternative to AnyDVD? I've never used it myself but have heard very good things. (Doesn't work with CloneDVD2 though)

CloneDVD2 does exactly what it says, clones (or copies) DVDs. Its not freeware, but is a nice one click solution to back up either an entire DVD or just main movie. It won't copy any protect files though and so is designed to run with AnyDVD.

It doesn't give the best results, but is certainly the easiest DVD Back-up software I've seen. I bought the pair for my Mum who just last week told me that she had "discovered" a new menu by pressing a different button on her mouse .

The up shot is you will probably not use CloneDVD2, but thought I’d make you aware the limitations of DVD43
