    can you put a mpeg1 or 2 onto a cd-r and watch it on a dvd player or can you only do that with a vcd or svcd.

    VCD is mpeg-1 and SVCD is mpeg-2, they are just stored on the disc in a particular way and encoded with certain restrictions to make them (S)VCD.

    If you mean can you put a raw filename.mpg file on a data CD and have it play in a DVD player, some players can handle this, but many do not. Check the DVD players list on the left of the page to see if yours can.

    What are you wanting to play it on?

    * On your PC - Yes
    * On a Standalone - depends on model. Have a look in the DVD players section to the left (if you don't know if your player does it probably doesn't)
