You can always try VSO's Divx to DVD, one of the older free versions if you can find it.

The are alot of guides in the guides section of this forum. You may want to check that out. There are many ways of doing it, but you cant simply just drag and drop in Nero, it dont work that way.

You must author the DVD if you want to craete a dvd-video.

Define what you want to do, how complex you want things to be, how much you are willing to spend and how much effort you are willing to put into this and maybe someone can offer a few suggestions. But even so, there is no 'best'. If there was, all the others would be out of business!
And no, Nero, or any other 'all in one wonder" program is not best.

  6. I know it's probably not the best method, but I have had success with using WinDVD Creator 2.
You just add your AVI file, create a splash screen with any music, graphocs you care to use (lots of default themes), an dthen click next, next, next and make your DVD!

PS - I am currently trying to solve an issue I have with some of my avi's though. It looks as though this issue is encoding issue rather than iwth WinDVD Creator. It's a great bit of software for a beginner, or someone who doesn't want to have complete control over everything. My first DVD from it was great. Good sound, picture in wide-screen... all from an avi file, and literally 5 minutes adding details and clicking next, next, next.
