I used DVDdecrepter to save the DVD Video_TS from a DVD onto my hard drive.

I now have the below in the Video_TS

    *****************************
    VIDEO_TS.VOB 22,528
    VIDEO_TS.BUP 14,336
    VIDEO_TS.IFO 14,336

    VTS_01_0.VOB 60,045,312 (Root Menu)
    Shows Buttons: Scene Selection /
    Language Selection/
    Play All /
    Play Each
    VTS_01_0.BUP 22,528
    VTS_01_0.IFO 22,528

    VTS_01_1.VOB 8,054,784 (Producer Credit/Logo)
    VTS_02_0.BUP 110,592
    VTS_02_0.IFO 110,592

    VTS_02_0.VOB 22,528 (blank)

    VTS_02_1.VOB 1,073,739,776 (Contents)
    VTS_02_2.VOB 1,073,739,776
    VTS_02_3.VOB 1,073,739,776
    VTS_02_4.VOB 1,073,739,776
    VTS_02_5.VOB 250,595,328

    15 File(s) 4,613,994,496 bytes

VTS_02_1 to VTS_02_5.VOB contain 4 episodes of TV shows. As each show is larger then 1GB, it ends in the next VOB etc.

    ************************************************** *****

    1. Which file contains the Scene Selection menu/Language Selection Menu etc as shown when playing VTS_01_0.VOB?

    2. When trying to edit those VOBs

    a) VideoReDo was only able to load VIDEO_TS.VOB (Blank) but became "Not Respoonding" when loading any other VOBs;
What other softwares to do the editing/joining job?

    b) To edit those VOBs (cutting unneeded scenes/frames etc),
do I need first to join all those VTS_02 VOBs then do the
    editing/saving, then re-encode to MPEG2?

    Hi,

You could use dvdshrink and reauthor the dvd but it doesn't have a very fine control for precise removing.

If you want one large vob you can rerip with dvddecrypter and choose 1 vob from the options tab.

Check out the tools section for mpeg editing tools. virtualdubmpeg2 can edit vobs but it only outputs to avi unless you frameserve to tmpgenc or something else.

You have many options it depends on how much you want do and how serious your cuts are. (you can also edit vobs in tmpgenc via mpeg tools. There you can edit the clips in the trim mode).

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. you can edit vobs directly in premier pro also. Like yoda says...the tool to use, completely depends on what exactly you are trying to do.

  4. If you are trying to preserve original DVD structure then DvdReMake is probably the tool for you.

I believe the trick with DVD Decrypter is to use IFO mode and specify one large VOB. Do NOT use File mode if you need to edit your video in something like MPEG Video Wizard.

    Thanks for the info.

Is it possible and/or How to join 2+ large VOBs and running MPEG editor to encode the new file to a lower bitrate low bitrates, then run authoring/burning etc?

As has been mentioned already, you really needed to combine the VOBs into one large file using DVD Decrypter - in IFO mode. Then you could have brought the entire (single) file into VideoReDo and done your cutting and processing. This link taken from the VideoReDo FAQ will show you how:

http://www.videoredo.com/FAQs.htm#JoiningVOBFiles Be sure to click in the link in item #3.

Another method I often use is to rip the entire DVD to the hard drive. Then use VobBlanker to eliminate or blank out those portions of the DVD you don't want included. Save that compliation to your hard drive and shrink it with DVD Shrink.
