  1. Hello all.

I currently have video files (xvid) which I wish to cut parts out of, then join back together. I used Ultra Video Splitter to break the file apart, and the two seperate pieces seemed fine. However, when I then used Ultra Video Joiner to merge the parts, the second part loses audio sync.

I have read in various places that this happens when the audio stream on the first file is very slightly shorter than the video stream.

What I would like is suggestions for any software (freeware, shareware, and commercial, please) which can carry out these operations (both the splitting and the joining) without ruining the audio sync. I also need the software to be able to read, and right files using, the xvid codec.

    Thanks,

    Ian

  2. First, check out the extensive sticky on "why does my file lose audio synch".

Mpeg files are fairly easy, and there are lots of choices, mainly because MPG is a standardized format, little variation in audio file types.

XVID, and variants of MPG4, is a different story. Large number of different audio codecs and formats, a prog may handle one type but not another. VBR audio encoding is a major problem. Often two segments to be joined will use different audio encoding methods and formats. No one solution will handle all these different problems, most of which will lead to audio de-synch.

Basic solution, found years ago, and detailed MULTIPLE places on this board, is to strip the audio as a WAV file, join the two vids, and re-encode the audio. This will almost always work.
