  1. I tried to use DVD Shrink to back up two different movies, but got a burn fail on both. I have tried to use two different media, Sony and Verbatim. Following is my system info:

PC with P4 2.0 ghtz and 768m RAM
    Windows XP w/SP2
Using Pacific Digital DVD +/- R/RW

Can somebody tell me what the following long error log means? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Are trying to use DVD Shrink straight from the disk? If so it may be worth ripping the files to your hard drive first and then shrinking. Try DVD Decrypter or FAB DVD to do the ripping.

If you are doing this what movie are you trying to shrink and what s/ware did you rip with?

  3. Thanks for the response.

For this particular fail I did not use another ripper, but I got the same problem when I tried to rip using DVD Decryptor. I tried to do Coach Carter and National Treasure, both movies gave me problems. I tried both of them multiple times, though I used Decryptor only on Coach Carter.

Sorry, just read your question properly - DVD Shrink is running ok you just have burn error .

In the DVD Shrink settings are set to burn with Nero? If so try creating an ISO image and then burn with DVD Decrypter afterward.

Could also be a media issue, try looking in the DVD Recorder section for media for your burner.

  5. Your problem is more than likely with Nero.
Whenever I see a post regarding failed burns Nero always seems to pop up.
As previously recommended create an ISO image in DVDshrink and burn to disc with DVDdecrypter, this will more than likely rectify the problem.
I dont think your choice of media will be the problem as Sony and Verbatim should be fairly reliable.
I have seen a few people complain that version 6 of Nero has given them problems burning DVD's and they have returned to an earlier version and had no problems.

  6. Thank you all for your help. Can somebody give me a quick and dirty rundown of how to create an ISO file, maybe a quick explaination of what one is. I was not even aware that I could burn a disc using DVDdecrypter. Also, if Nero is not a particularly good burner to use with Shrink, what would be a good alternative?

    Thanks Again

Check out the following link on using DVDShrink to create ISO images:

    http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink31-main.htm

An ISO image is basically a disc-ready image that contains all of the necessary files/folders in a ready-to-burn format.

As for burning ISO's, I use TDA or DVD Decryptor for ISO's to DVD.

    Cheers and best of luck!

    Just use DVDdecrypter.
In DVDshrink when you select to 'Backup' you can select to create an 'ISO image and burn using DVDdecrypter' as an option.
    it's as easy as that.
