    1) I used WinAvi to convert rmvb files to DVD, I got subtitiles but the quality not as good as method 2 below

    2) I used WinAvi to convert rmvb files to avi files first and used Nero Express to convert avi files (with DivX codecs) to DVD, excellent quality, but NO subtitiles (according to DivX, not supporting subtitiles!)

    I'm willing to pay, can anyone here recommend a good software that will produce quality output with subtitiles? Thanks in advance.

    There is no truely great one-click-wonder. The commercial version of DivxtoDVD looks promising, but it is still no match for using the best tools for each stage. Some of these are free, some will cost. For me it is;

    Avisynth or virtualdubmod (depending on the filters required)
    CCE (the basic version is more than enough)
    DVD Lab Pro

    If you want a one-click solution, look at DivxtoDVD2 (as I believe it is now called)

    Off topic, but are there some VDub filters that don't have an AviSynth equivalent, guns1inger? Or perhaps there are some VDubFilters that are just easier to configure than some of the AviSynth ones, where it's not so easy to see the before and after? Some really esoteric ones, maybe? Forgive me for being nosy, but I'm curious.

    More that my knowledge and expertise in avisynth is still growing, and sometimes I like the interactivity of virtualdub, even if it comes at a cost of speed.

  5. OK, thanks for the reply. Using VDub, it's often easier to setup and see the effect of the filters, that's for sure.

    And I agree with the CCE comment, although many here also like TMPGEnc.

    when you are talking about a few percent difference in quality (subjective) versus a 200 - 300 percent difference in speed (objective), I know where my money went.
