I find it odd that Plextor's newest drive, the 740A (same as BenQ 1640, right?) has 6mb less buffer than the 716.
So which should I go with? which is the better drive?

The PLEXTOR 740 is a rebadged BENQ 1640. From what I've read the PLEXTOR 740 does not come with Plextools or any other Plextor software. The drive was not made to use any Plextor software.
I would just get the BENQ 1640 which will be released sometime next week at Newegg.com. Why pay more for the Plextor 740 when you can probably get 2 of the BENQ 1640's.:P The buffer really doesn't matter. Check out the PLEXTOR & BENQ FORUM's at Cdfreaks.com
