I have a brand new Dell with a Philips 8610 burner in it. I can read the DVD-R disks that I have just fine but it stops half way through the burn every time using TMPGenc DVD Author. Is it possible to have a disk that allows read but not write due to compatibility? I've tried reducing the burn speed to no avail. I used a cheap Staples brand DVD-r and it burned fine. Any help or info would be appreciated.

Believe it or not I ran thru a lot of those cheap Staples disks with no problems, they may be CMC but they worked for me, and at the price when they were on anniversary sale, <$9 for 50 the price was great.
Since you know what burner look for an updated firmware. Try burning with someting else. I use that program but burn with DVD Decrypter or Nero.
Good Luck
