    hello,

I am trying to find a basic backup program that will backup a certain folder to CD-RW. I have looked around and every backup program i have found has some silly quirk..it either wants to make it a .zip file, a proprietary file, it won't backup to cd-rw, or it doesn't scan the folder each time so it keeps wanting to write old junk that may or may not be there (i'm looking at you, nero backup)...

    What I Want:
I want a program where I can say "copy the files currently in this folder to CDRW when I click on the settings Icon that you create"

simple! Anyone have the program for me?...i had an automated process that used the dos console and had to write an iso then burn it to cd, but it didn't support long filenames..and since I'm in windows (2000 on this machine) I should have to go through all that...there should be a basic "copy what's in this folder to cd" backup solution....

    thanks for your help!

Ummmmmmmmm... Drag and Drop in windows explorer? I know XP supports this don't know about 2000, otherwise every burning utility such as Roxio or Nero has a create data disc function, just drag the folder and burn away. you cn create projects in Roxio for automation, just load the project and click the burn button. Don't know about nero.

yeah..i know drag n' drop can be done..I was trying to find something that would let me make a settings file that specified the folder to back up so I could just put an icon on the desktop of the user that they could click and it would automate the backup process for them...I wrote a .bat file once that would eject the cd, throw up a screen saying to insert a cd and press any key when ready, then it would close the cd after a key was pressed..it would then erase the disc, write the iso image, then burn the iso image to cd..the problem is it didn't support long filenames...

since I'm not really needing to backup in dos I thought surely there is a simple 1 click process for doing this simple backup to cd..it seems they are all geared towards zip drives..etc. I know nero has a console mode but it is the most confusing thing i've ever seen :P. I can make some automated .bat files with ghost..etc. that have some pretty elaborate switches but the nero console seems to overly complicate things...it's such a simple thing I want to do! Maybe I should just tell the user drag this folder in here and hit the burn button :P.

I've used xcopy and robocopy before but I don't think they will know what to do to copy to a CD..
