  1. As I like to back up my DVD collection, I like to rip them and burn them using my Mac. Up until recently, however, it was just fine, but now I'm having some strange problems. At first I thought it was a problem with DVD2oneX, but after using Popcorn, I realized it was an issue with the ripping. For ripping I usually use Mactheripper. Here is what my problem entails: After burning the DVD, there are times when the picture gets heavily pixilated, or just small parts. Sometimes there'll be an audio glitch.

So I tried to re-install Mactheripper several times (luckily I have some DVD-RWs laying around), but with no success. So I decided to give DVDBackup a go (I used it back before I knew MtR existed). And oddly enough, whenever I add the files for Backup to process, it'll say the files are significanty smaller than they really are.

So I'm really at a loss for what I should do. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. I also have the latest versions of MtR and DVDBackup. And I am also running OS 10.4.2

What type of media (DVD-Rs) are you using?
Have you verified that the Heavy Pixelation/
Audio Glitches exist BEFORE burning them to disc,
by playing the ripped folder with DVD Player?

    post back.

  3. I am using Taiyo Yuden, but I have also tried Sony. And yes, I get these glitches when played from the ripped video_ts folders.

Are you running any extra services (sharing, virex, etc.)? Check your StartupItems.

Also noticed you're running 10.4.2. Did the problems start after you updated to Tiger?

  5. No, no extra services. I don't think it started before I updated, but it is a possibility. Later today, if I have time, I'll make a partition and try with 10.4.1. But if that is the case, what should I do? It's not very convienient to have a partition, for a few reasons.

    Thanks.

re: updating. I was referring to coming from Panther to Tiger. Perhaps you should return to 10.3.9.

  9. No, this problem has only occured recently, it was fine with 10.4, but it recently started doing this. I don't think it has anything to do with the OS updates.

Last time you ran Disc Utility and repaired permisssions?
Do you have a copy of Cocktail or Onyx?
Do you own a copy of Disc Warrior 3.02?

And please explain why you can't partition?
No way to clone off data?
You just have everything on a lump 300GB drive
    and that's it? ( SOUIUD)

Btw, the current version of DiskWarrior is 3.0.3, which you want if you're running Tiger.

No, I have two harddrives. I say I don't want to partition, because that would be a pain in the ass booting from a partition just so I can rip a DVD. I don't think I should have to resort to that.

Well at this point, THEN, I would suggest installing 10.39
    on your OTHER hard drive
( since you don't like partitions) and
boot from it, and test to see if everything works.
Something DEFINITELY got hosed in your user account.
    Without a GOOD disc utility,
your only other options are to
boot from a (lower) version OS to test if this is a problem,
    ( 10.39, or a clean install of 10.4)
or try creating a new user account and testing.

But if you were the only
account on your mac, I'd say pretty
much, it looks to be a re-install of Tiger at this point.

I would second the idea of creating a new user account prior to re-installing OS X. It's a lot quicker than any kind of re-install and would rule out issues with your current user account.
