and any other useful information . . .

I have been avidly studying/researching/depending on this site for months. Thanks to all.

I'm looking for the appropriate compressor to use for a conversion to AVI from a Bink Video file (don't ask, it was originally a MOV file so this is a step forward for me) and I'm confronted with a variety of codec/compressor options, which is nice, but I have no clue which one would be best.

    Options:
    Cinepac Codec by Radius
    Intel Indeo(R) Video R3.2
    Intel Indeo Video 4.5
    Intel IYUV codec
    Microsoft RLE
    Microsoft Video 1
    Microsoft H.263 Video Codec
    Microsoft H.261 Codec
    Indeo Video 5.10
    Sony DV software codec
    Full Frames (Uncompressed)

Sooo . . . your thoughts on the above options? Or am I missing something that will provide better quality?

The file will be edited dramatically in Premiere- hence the AVI necessity. It will then go onto DVD and hopefully play in a wide variety of standalones

    Please and thank you . . .

  2. If you're going to edit it anyhow, use uncompressed, providing you have the room, otherwise the Sony DV codec isn't bad.
All the others you list are very old and outdated/poor quality.

    ^^ thank you!

I thought those other ones were fairly random (as several searches revealed little information)

hmm, okay so I converted without compression, dropped into Premiere and . . .

I can get the clip to play in the clip monitor from the media window, but when I insert the clip into the timeline it will only display as a black box in the preview window.

    Thoughts?

  6. I don't use Premiere, so I have no idea what codec/compression formats it will accept.
