Do any of the standalone recorders have menu formats that accommodate long chapter title names?
Most of my work involves converting music video compilations to DVD, and I like to name the chapters in the format "Artist - Song Title". What I'm finding is that these new thumbnail-based menus have no effective provision to handle titles that are longer than a word or two.
What would be ideal would be an option to make the menus EITHER thumbnail based OR text based. At the very least, you should be able to determine how titles split over multiple lines.
The Toshiba XS34 fails miserably in this regard. Poor enough that in all likelihood I will return it. There is no provision to specify line breaks when titling (I scoured the manual as well as calling Critchfield tech support) and Toshiba's AI is so poor that it breaks in the middle of words. Unforgivable.
I even tried padding spaces to force words down onto a second line, but you run out of allowable characters.
Here are some examples:
1. My trusty rusty DMR-HS2 and its text-only menu:
2. The Toshiba SX-34:
Do any of the current crop of standalones allow a menu option like what my DMR-HS2 did, or something similar (2-4 thumbnails per menu with plenty of space for titles)? I have not seen any menu samples from the current Panasonics.
Thanks in advance,
-Dan
