  1. Almost everyone who shoots miniDV tape knows that time and date (and sometimes exposure) info is encoded in the miniDV tape recording and can be recalled and displayed (or not) during playback of the original tape.

After the tape is edited in SONY VEGAS 6.0b (the pro version) and transferred back to another new miniDV tape, the date code shows the date and time of the transfer from the VEGAS edit rather than the original date-time info. Is there a way to retain the original shoot date & time info when using VEGAS???

It seems that when I used a home version of Pinnacle Studio 7, it saved the original info.

I'd be surprised. You have effectively created a new movie by writing it to the camera. As the camera writes the date code, any footage going back to the camera will be given a new and current code.

I'd be interested to see if Pinnacle did do it, but I'd be very surprised.

  3. Programs using Sony Vegas Movie Studio (the home user edition) does output original time and date info to miniDV tape. However, if a scene has been altered in Movie Studio (ie: FX added) then the original time and date are lost for that scene. Original time and date also disappears momentarily during disssolves and other transitions.
