  1. I'm trying to use Virtualdub 1.3c to extract VBR MP3 audio from an AVI file into a WAV file. Whenever I do, however, the resulting WAV file is only a third or so as long as the corresponding video. Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks in advance for any trouble-shooting tips you can provide.

    Hi Nikkoforever

Yep, this happened to me so many times with Vdub/VdubMod/any VDub variant that I gave up on using VDub for mp3 to wav conversion YEARS ago...just like your finding now sometimes the full mp3 file would be converted to wav, sometimes just a few minutes and sometimes only one channel (from stereo) slowed to 50% real time.......weird.

Anyway for a quick answer to your problem: either

    a) extract the mp3 OR convert the file to wav using AUDACITY or GOLDWAVE...(but this could take up to 20 mins).....if you must

    or

    b) If you want the audio for a DVD project use FFMPEGGUI to convert the mp3 DIRECTLY to mp2 or Ac3 (use the default 192 bitrate setting) takes about 5mins for a 'typical' 90min .avi......

    HTH

Well, I used Goldwave to convert the file to WAV, but when I used TMPGEnc DVD Author, the resulting file's audio and video are out of sync. I'm starting to get desparate. I need to get this project done for work in the next two days. Any other ideas?

  4. What are you trying to do, convert a DivX;) to DVD? If so, just use AVI2DVD or VSO DivXToDVD v0.5.

I'm trying to convert an AVI file with a VBR MP3 audio track into DVD. I tried AVI2DVD and after taking nearly two hours to process the files, I got an error message that said: Evaluate: Unrecognized Exception. I tried VSODivxToDVD and the resulting file also had video and audio that were out of sync.

Someone please help me. I'm about to pull my hair out. All I want to do is convert an AVI file with a VBR MP3 audio track into DVD (or separate M2V and WAV files). There's gotta be a program that does this, doesn't there? It doesn't need to be freeware, I'm willing to buy a program. Just point me in the right direction.

Are you sure you have the audio in the full processing mode when you extract it?
It doesn't matter who you vote for. The government always gets in.

I have it in full processing mode in Virtualdub. Is that what you mean? If there are options to check that in VSODivxToDVD or AVI2DVD, then I can't find them. Any ideas? The file that Goldwave outputs appears to be valid and complete, it just doesn't sync up right with the video when I author in TMPGEnc DVD Author.

  8. Have you tried the latest version of VSO DivXToDVD? I know it's not free anymore, but you can use the demo to find out if it'll work, first. They improved it to fix the sync problem.

Yup. I just used the latest version (downloaded directly from their website) and the DVD file's audio and video are a couple of seconds out of sync. Any other ideas? It's just so frustrating, especially since TMPGEnc was able to handle these files fine before. I don't know why it can't do it now.

  10. Check out this thread about correcting sync:

Another thing you could try is converting the audio from the AVI to a WAV with BeSweet. I'm not sure if it can handle DivX AVI's, but it's worth a try. Just compare the playback duration for the video and resulting WAV. You should be able to de-mux the VOB with VOBEdit and get a M2V file you can use in TMPEGEnc.

Ok the thing to do is convert the file direct from the .avi with FFMPEGGUI (use the default 192 setting and select either AC3 or MP2..personally I would go MP2..purely as I can PREVIEW mp2 audio in my authorer..ac3 is mute until authored). Also BEFORE authoring or anything else CHECK the length (in time) matches your mpv/m2v video file.

If FFMPEGGUI cannot get the correct length in time to match the video then (and it does 99.9999% of the time) then give up NOW as you will be going into serious editing territory (spell?)..and if the project is for work as you say..then let them pay for it....dont let them use you as a 'freebie' ..(read 'idiot').

Well, Winamp says the M2V file is 3068 seconds long, while FFMPEGGUI says the audio is 3069 seconds long. Does that mean I'm screwed?

If your within a second then try authoring your DVD......just stick the Vid and audio file in TDA (or your authorer) and check it lines up...use a chapter near the end to check the audio sync.

PS. Is the FFMPEGGUI audio file longer than the GOLDWAVE .wav file?.

FFMPEGGUI starts the audio from when the avi track begins....VDUB/GOLDWAVE etc starts from when the AUDIO track begins within the .avi..these are NOT the same thing (read sentence again if unsure) and here lies most .avi audio probs.
