I have an ATI AIW 900Pro that I use for capture and it does a fine job.
In fact, there's nothing wrong with it at all.
But it doesn't support ATI's component video adapter, which means that if I wanna watch my video files or play games on my HD television, I'm stuck using S-Video
the capture card was a (not exactly cheap!) gift from my girlfriend, and as I said, there's nothing wrong with it -- if I but a replacement (AIW X800XT ) she will be PISSED.

so my question is: Can I install another video card (it would have to be a PCI card) that does support component out (720p at least) in my PC?

Yes, I want to have 2 video cards if possible.
One to capture with, and one to use for a 2ndary display.
I have completed my PC specs, just hovering over the button should pop them up.

    TIA!

  2. I'm not sure, but I think the only way to have 2 video cards is with the new SLI technology...if that's what you're talking about. You would need a motherboard that supports it, and 2 cards that work with it. Go to Nvidia's homepage for more info. Other than that, I have no idea.

Beavereater is correct. You need the new SLI technology, which is quite expensive at the moment.

    hhmmmm....
i quite clearly remember going to CompUSA at least 2 years ago and seeing a PC that was set up with 3 monitors for a flight sim game.
did they do that with just one card?

I don't know if you will find component out, but a PCI ATI card with DVI out can probably be used with a ATI DVI to component adapter. Check ATI for the adapter specs to see which cards it works with. I use the ATI component adapter with a AGP card to my Video projector with no problems. Should work the same with a compatible PCI card. There is also a VGA to component adapter, though I don't know much about it.

One of the Matrox Parhelias would be able to drive something like that. My plain old AGP video cards can run two displays at least, the newest two of them support component out. There are cheaper options for a video card with component out than the top-of-the-line ATi card to replace your current one. In fact you can get a pretty good PCI tuner/capture card in addition to it for not much more.

Ditto. SLI for using dual video cards.
