  1. Hi,
When I captured (transferred) some DV video with Windows Movie Maker 2 it seemed to go OK. The preview video seemed fine. However when play it back it is speeded up ( 1.5 - 2 times). Any idea why that happens?
When I was capturing it the sound was coming from the speakers on the camera suggested that the camera was working at the correct speed.
    thanks,lmcnlcy

  2. Hi,
I have now noticed that the problem may be that the dropped frame rate is almost 1:1 (i.e. for one transferred one is dropped). I have no problem transferring my DV from a Sony Digital8 camcorder. This is a brand new Sony DCR-HC32.
    Any suggestions?

Try using WinDV - it's free and very reliable. There's also DVIO and AVI_IO.

Also, there are a whole load of reasons why frames can be dropped - check out the relevant "sticky" in the "Capturing" forum.
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Are you trnasferring as DV-AVI? And have you tried to tranfer using your old D8 recently to see if your system can still capture from that?

Dropped frames can be from a variety of reasons. DV-AVI is not that hard to capture without dropped frames and from my experience the only time I have dropped frames is when I was reaching the capacity of the drive or it was heavily fragmented.

Another thing that could possibly be causing it is if you have something read/writing to the drive frequently during capture such as anti-virus. You could also hit CTRL-ALT-Delete during capture to open up task manager to see if there's anything using a lot of CPU....

  5. Hi All,
Thanks for your advice. Last night I checked my old D8 camera and it too was dropping frames. I changed the firewire port that I was using and the situation is cured. I will swap them again at the weekend to see if the problem reappears.
