I like AutoGK for this. The speed isn't so much the software I don't think, as opposed to the codec and/or your PC specs, as a while back I tried Dr Divx, Fairuse wizrd, and AutoGK. I can't remember the exact results, but I *think* I found XviD to be quicker than DivX on the exact same source, and I found AutoGK to be the most noob-friendly and easiest to set up.

FWIW, it takes me roughly 2 hours for every 1 hour of footage with autoGK.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Thanks I'll have a go using AutoGK.I've read the comments though:
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=AutoGK#usercomments

and a lot of people claim that it contains spy/adware.Is this true?
I usually use divx but will now try xvid if what you say is true, that its faster.
    Thanks.

    Yes, it does ...

... but it is seriously piss-easy to remove:

XviD was just faster on my machine - I dunno whether that holds true unequivocally or not ...
    If in doubt, Google it.

Did you download the latest Beta, or the latest stable version ? AFAIK it's in version 1.95 onwards.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Just checked the AutoGK FAQ at Doom9, and found this:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72679

5.10 During install of AutoGK my antivirus software picked up file dae.exe/dae.dll and reported it as a trojan. Is it really infected?
    - no, its an adware package that is bundled with the installer (see disclaimer during installation). Search the forum for more info - it has been extensively discussed already. *Update* versions 1.96 / 2.08+ are no longer bundled with DAE.
    If in doubt, Google it.
