  1. i dunno this might of been done before
but just watched Million Dollar Baby and (readers that may want to watch Million Dollar Baby click on white cross on red background in top right hand corner now.)
anyway i thought that bird would beat all the odds and be crowned as female boxer of the world, (similar to Rocky but he has a penis)
so what happens? she gets hit after the bell hits her head on stool, become parapalegic, bites tongue and finally gets killer dose of adrenalin off old Clint.
but even though it was unpredictable i thought it was slightly boring.
so what's your favourite unpredictable ending?

Arlington Road. I won't ruin it. If you've never watched this movie go rent it now.

"The Sixth Sense" had the most unpredictable (to me) ending of any movie I've seen over the last few years. Oddly, though, I saw a special on the making of the film afterward ... pointing out all the clever clues left in the film that, together, gave away the ending (if people were paying attention to them). Obviously, I wasn't watching for tiny clues to anything ... assuming the film was following a normal plot course. A close second to that would be "Unbreakable" (starring the same actor and written by the same writer).

Yeah 6th sense is good but I think shyamalan's unpredictable endings are starting to get predictable. Anyway 6th sense is one of those movies that if you don't get by the time its given away, it really makes you feel stupid. Some of the clues are really pretty telling. Like when he's working in that room and then his wife walks by and the door is boarded up. I was like wtf? From that point on I knew something was up but for some reason I didn't figure it out til the end.

Another unpredictable movie is Basic, but more because its overly complex and contradictory rather than clever. Basically everyone tells their own version of the story and everybody's lying. BTW I'm not giving anything away, you get as much from the trailer.

  9. I'm with AlecWest & adam on this one. The 6th
sense caught me and I was in a state of delighted
fury after viewing that film. I was compelled to
review the film over and over again to try
and catch an error that would expose Willis's
    character. I failed of course.

One of my favorite films of all time.

Mine, too. There was one scene in the film that made me think they "might" be hinting at a sequel (or more) ... or possibly a television series. When the boy communicated with the ghost of a dead girl ... who revealed the location of a videotape proving that her mom had poisoned her to death (and was worrying about her sister suffering the same fate), I could see a series featuring a boy who could talk to dead people coupled with a dead psychologist ... trying to use information gleaned from the dead to solve earthly issues of the living.

Oh, well ... it never happened.

Unbreakable was a pretty good movie. I rented it to see what it was about. Willis and Jackson worked well together. Unfortunately its pretty slow for a drama. I mean there wasn't much tension or suspense in it.

BUT I did like it for the most part. It was different at least.

I always wanted to make my own film, alot of drama and action on an epic scale building up slowly for over 2 hours, then in the last 5 min without anything to do with the rest of the film there is a massive nuclear war and everyone dies.

    Sixth Sense - yep

Fight Club - I was suspicious early because of the near subliminal flashes, but it still worked.

Lake Placid -just as it got to the bit where I thought 'and now they take the giant croc back to civilisation and it goes on the rampage', the credits rolled (sue me, I like this trashy little film)

I guess Usual Suspects is a pretty unpredictable ending. Definitely a cool one.

    Others maybe...

Identity- You could kinda tell what was happening but it wasn't obvious who was real or not.

Memento- Whole thing is unpredicable. I mean hell, the main character doesn't even know what's happening.

Se7en- Its basically one of those endings where everything plays exactly into the hands of the bad guy...but you actually believe he could have pulled it off. And when you see Morgan Freeman's reaction to the box you're like WTF is in there?

I have to agree with pretty much all the movies stated - problem I have with these types of films is that I don't have much drive to watch a 2nd (or more) time...

Some great movies but when they rely on such a strong twist there's not much point in watching again once you know the twist.

Both of those had great endings.

Another Ed Norton movie with an unpredictable ending:

    Primal Fear

Se7en, like Adam stated, also was unpredictable. It was definately not the ending everyone wanted, but fit well with the rest of the tone of the film.

If you ever have a chance while watching Se7en, watch closely right before Brad Pitt's character shoots Kevin Spacey's character. There is a short flash of Gwyneth Paltrow. It's almost subliminal. Very cool effect.

    The Sixth Sense

Everyone agrees this had an unpredictable ending. I've never seen such a flawless build up to an ending like. I've looked for holes in the entire film that would give away the ending, but I have yet to find any.

  18. I love the ending to Dead Again.

All through the movie you are certain that the main characters are "reincarnations" of two lovers and/or murderers from the 1940's.

But it's not until the dramatic ending that you really find out who is who from the past and present.

Added to my queue, thanks for the tip.

Returning to the original topic, for me it was the sixth sense, I didn't see that one coming until the very end of the movie....

An older but great unpredictable ending, "Primal Fear". Edward Norton's first role and he nailed it. Also stars Richard Gere. Norton nailed anothered one with "Fight CLub"
Norton was so good in "Primal Fear", the 2nd time I watched I was suprised again.

I mentioned this in my post.

I just wanted to add that "Arlington Road" (Adam's pick) was great. Great ending... everything. Oh... if you're in the mood for Tim Robbins movies, check out the following for great endings:

    "The Shawshank Redemption"
    "Antitrust"

don't forget to round things off with "the village"

very slow and boring by modern standards, but i thought the ending made up for it. I let my friends parents watch it and they were less than amused at being jerked around for a couple hours.

Though I liked the movie I kinda figured everything out in the first 40 mins. of the show.

I've never seen "The Village" but I was going to. The thing that kept me away was a local jerk reporter who gave away the ending.

Likely this is needless advice as many of you do NOT listen BUT....

Do NOT listen to opie and anthony on days of big film releases unless you want random spoilers.

Ok I went back and reread . Here's your original post concerning Primal Fear.
" Another Ed Norton movie with an unpredictable ending:

My post: " An older but great unpredictable ending, "Primal Fear". Edward Norton's first role and he nailed it. Also stars Richard Gere.

I see a difference. But truthfully I'm not here to get into any pissing match over a thread.
So Cheers, and have one on me.
