I use TMPGEnc to put two single layer standalone discs together to make a dual layer disc. The editing functions in TMPGEnc are not precise enough for my needs and I was wondering was there a freeware or trialware software out there that edited VOB files together more seamlessly, and dual layer authoring would be nice too. Thanks for any help.

  2. VideoReDo, Look in the tools section on the left.

Videoredo can edit or merge VOBs, Then Re-Author with TMPGEnc DVD Author program the dual layer version 1.6 as I recall it is for dual layer and 1.5 is for single layer authoring.

I would use VRD to make one big MPG from the vobs and then re-author.

  3. I find Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005 to be excellent for all types of mpeg1/2 files. I can easily edit/join/split mpeg2 files (including VOB's) and also handles AC3 perfectly, meaning it will edit the ac3 file then export it without needing to re-encode the file.

You can export as a muxed file or elementary stream.

It also can edit down to each frame which can be very helpful. Highly recommended.

I totally agree. You can do so much more with MVW than VideoRedo.VideoRedo is great for correcting sync issues and cutting commercials though, but thats about it.

  5. And I do everything that Skynet107 says MVW does with VRD. I can hear the MPG or AC3 audio from within it. I Open .ts files etc.

And of course as mentioned the commercial detection works pretty good.

The other feature I like is the quick support.

BTW I use it to fix the .ts streams from my sat. PVR and output as .mpg.

I've used it to bring in VOBs from a DVD recorder, edit and output and as mpg and then join before authoring.

Probably I find it has a work methodology that matches my way of working whereas when I tried Womble MPEG-VCR I hated the way it worked for edits and such.

Just an interface preference I guess. It also may be that MVW 2005 has a much improved interface?

FWIW VRD's Dan R. says they are thinking about adding in .wmv support.

Final thoughts use what works for you.

    Cheers

Try MVW. Once you do, you'll want to marry it. Really!

Maybe, However VRD works for me. Spent the money and until I can't do what I want with it....

Sort of the same reason I don't look at HD TVs. I can't afford to go HDTV and don't want to watch it fo r a while and them come home and look at my TV and be unhappy. Or same reason many people are happy with Pentium II or Pentium III based computers they don't use anything faster so it is fast enough.

I have been using MVW, and I have gotten the hang of the interface, but for some reason, once I get to the last 20 minutes of the video, the audio becomes out of sync, and gets progressively worse until the end, at which point it is a good 10 seconds out of sync. When I pull up the VOB of the corresponding section with Powerdvd, the audio is right on time. Is there something I can do to correct this?

  10. Never Had that problem, with VRD, Maybe try the Trial version, Get the trial version key from them otherwise 30 minute output limit. Then get the latest beta and run the Quickstream Fix before editing. You might be surprised how many Audio/video errors it fixes. Then edit and I'll bet you are good to go. THe audio sync fixing is one reason I use it.

    Good Luck

I would demux with VobEdit - then use Cuttermaran.

Exact and precise editing of both the vid and audio streams

Can cut and either keep output elementary or re-mux
