What type of video files is it? If it is mpeg you can use a variety of programs to demux the video and audio so they are seperate. In which case you can work with the audio then reauthor. That is of course if the video file is a mpeg.

There is a simple demux program created by liquid it can be found here https://www.videohelp.com/~liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl?p=download (it is near the bottom called "BatchDemux 0.14"... Download, extract it and run the program...

    The following should show up...

    Click on open directory

located the directory with the mpeg file then select it and click ok
you should be able to see the fie listed
    click on 'run demultiplex'

after you do that it will ask you for a destination directory... select one and then click on "OK"

from there it will start the demultiplexing the mpeg into its elementry (the video and audio will be seperated)

the audio will more than likely be the file that is the smallest. just work with the audio like you were mentioning and then re-author.

if you need some help with authoring let me know

Do you just want to change the bitrate? ie 256kbps -> 128kbps?

    ffmpegGUI is the easiest...

rename the file from *.m2a to *.mp2
Run the program, you will see this:

You will want to click on "Browse" and then locate the *.mp2 file
    double click to open it...

there should be some file stats listed directly underneath...

Select either AC3 or MP2 encoding

under the "Bitrate" dropdown select 128...(there isn't an option for 96)...

Now select a destination file name...choose something that is different than
Click on "Browse" and locate where you want the file and type in a name and click on "Save"

When you are done with that click on "

When you are done you will have the new audio file at a different resolution...

    Now for reauthoring...

I would recommend dvdauthorGUI (another frontend created by liquid)

From what you said the demux program did, you will have to rename the *.mpege0 to *.m2v, *.m1v, or *.mpv...depending on the input video (m2v for MPEG 2, M1V for MPG1...

once you have dvdauthorgui installed and loaded,
    click on "Add Title"
a dialog box will open asking for a video file
located the video file that you demuxed,
    then double click on it
then it will ask for a audio file
locate the *new* file that you converted and double click it
    ok...
    click on "author dvd"
A dialog box will pop up asking where you want to put the files...(basically a name for the folder containing the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files
**Note you will have to name the folder something else than any folder than is currently exisiting***

    Click on "Ok"

It will then author the files... there should be no errors, but it will let you know if there are any...

After the process is done just simply burn the VIDEO_TS and the AUDIO_TS folders to disk

The problem might be solved if you install DVDAuthorGUI...

  10. All worked fine! But if i want to join the new audio file with the video file, not in a dvd format( AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS) but in a single file? How can i do this? With your guide the size of the original file is bigger only 8 MB of the modified one!

You can use TMPG. The freeware version should work just fine..
Once you get it installed, under File, select "Mpeg tools".
The first tab it "Simple Multiplex".
    • -Click on the browse button next to the video text box and locate the video file.
-Then click on the browse button next to the audio text box and locate the audio file.
-Finally click on the browse button next to the output text button...select a place to set the destination...
-Before hitting "Run"...make sure the "Type" is correct...
-When all of that is done, hit Run.
