  1. After making some clips from digital TV broadcasts using a Nebula DigiTV card, I used Womble MPEG Video Wizard to add a 5-second fade-in and fade-out. I then authored a DVD from the clips.

The clips play fine on PowerDVD, but on standalone DVD players the clips start part-way through the fade-in. I ran the clips through VideoRedo's quickstream fix, and it failed complaining of a video buffer ring error. The latest VideoRedo beta, however, will fix the clips and they play as designed on standalones, fading in properly.

I'd rather not have to run the Womble-generated clips through a second editor, so does anyone know of a workaround to get Womble to generate an error-free, standalone-friendly fade-in? I've tried adding a second of black before the fade-in, but it makes no defference.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't have any specific answers for you; just a couple of observations to consider.

I seem to recall many other MPEG Video Wizard users had similar problems with inserted transitions. I think Womble may have recently issued a new upgrade version that dealt with this and other issues. Installing the latest version might resolve this for you.

While it won't help you now, I'm given to understand VideoRedo will soon be adding some sort of transitions to its program. You might keep a look-out for them. Since you already have the latest beta (2.1.0.391) you may be well-aware of what's been going on with VideoRedo but thought I'd mention it anyhow.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

A guy from Womble tech support sent me a link to a pre-release of the next version, which contains fixes for incorrect TFF/BFF field orders in transitions and fades. But it didn't solve the problem.

I know about VideoRedo's upcoming fade features, which will be very useful.
