  1. Ok i have 2 computers, the computer that was on that day got HIT.... I was at work and i left with my computer on my monitor off. I came home cut my monitor on and nothing........so i looked around and realized my router was ok and i pushed the button to turn on my computer and nothing happened. So i did all the required checkups, surge protector, wall outlets. and even traded power supplies with the computer im on now and still nothing happens but my motherboards light is on when its plugged up. i believe its my motherboard but what i was wondering was if it got hit by lightning is there a good chance that it messed up anything else or just my motherboard? I hope my HDDs are still ok but this computer wont pick either one of them up so i dont know im a littler worried.

I've had surges blow out computers before. If it got through the power supply, it's hard to tell what went out. It should have blown the PS fuse if it was that type of surge.

No real way to tell without testing each component or drive. I've burnt them all out with only a CD burner and the RAM as survivors, and one other time with only the motherboard dead. If you had a surge protector in line, it should have blown also if it was working properly.

Why are you sure it was a lightning strike? That would generally cause damage to most anything plugged into all the outlets.

If you're sure it came over the power line, then the power company may be liable for damages, depends on their contract. You have to ask them, though, they won't volunteer that information.

Also make sure your power line grounds (And cable TV and phone) are hooked securely to the exterior ground stakes. These can burn through on a direct or power line lightning strike and leave the wiring system unprotected.

That's not how it works. You can stick it to your homeowners insurance if it's > than your deductable (unlikely) although that is unadvisable.

Try pulling all of the cards out of your pc leaving only your video card. Try to boot the pc. I imagine if you have power to the motherboard, it's probably not a PS issue. My sister just experienced this with her pc. Turned out her modem got zapped though the phone line and was causing the computer to halt during POST.
