    Hi!
I'm using http://www.hostfiles.org/files/20050710085958_352x288_PAL.zip this TMPGEnc template with Noise filter to archive old vhs.By using it I can archive about 6-7 VHS on a 4,3GB DVD with a decent quality.

The problem is that on my dvd player it's all ok, but on dvd player of my friend he has some problem with video. Is this template fully DVD compliant or not?
Can you take a look on it?

    Download http://www.hostfiles.org/files/20050710085958_352x288_PAL.zip or http://www.savefile.com/files/3473223

    Thanks![/url]

    Yep, 352 x 288 MPEG-2 & 48Khz audio @128kbps - no DVD-compliance issues there.

However, CQ of 72 would seem a little low to me, as does 128kbps audio.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hi,

That is pal vcd resolution. It should be just fine since vcd resolution is allowable in the dvd specs. Is the audio 48khz for dvd??? That is the only change you need to make for a dvd from vcd files. Though many authoring programs do that for you.

It could also be your friends dvd player doesn't like the disc your using. Has he/she been able to play - or + R discs easily before? Have you tried a different brand? Those are a few things you can check out.

    Kevin

EDIT - jimmalenko - I've seen pro dvd discs with audio as low as 92 kbps for documentaries that work just fine. Though 192 might be a better minimum for homemade discs....
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

    First thanks for reply!

Well..i tested this template on 7 dvd players. On 6 it works, on 1 ( this my friend ) he says that video is very very bad.
The problem is that ( i think ) this last dvd player it's very old, one of first dvd player here in italy..maybe is this the problem?

However, CQ of 72 would seem a little low to me, as does 128kbps audio.
Could be low CQ a compatibility problem?
    I don't knew that..
I thought to a GOP structure problem..i hope it's all ok!

    Thanks!

They were my own quality judgements - nothing to do with compatibility

If it's an old DVD player, IMO it's more likely to just be picky with media.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Sorry it's not a media compatibility problem because KDVD template works there by using same dvds.
Maybe that old dvd player supports only 720x576

Why don't you just change it to 720 x 576 and find out ???

(I realise at that bitrate it will probably look like shite, but since you're telling me what it isn't, then perhaps you could do some tests ???)
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. the problem might be the mpeg audio.
try using pcm audio on a short clip and see if it works.

Because 720x576 it's not very useful when you work with VHS and because, as you said, at that resolution video is very bad.
I want ~80 minutes in ~700-750 mb and that template does it..i just don't know if it is totally compatible..

Have you tried it on your dvd player?

    I'd go with Jim....

Sounds like a media prob to me....some DVD players just DO NOT LIKE some DVDr media (I've got one myself...the other 3 players are not so fussy).....I HAVE to drop the bitrate to get a cat in hells chance of this one player working without choking....and dont EVER presume that all DVDr's wether from the same cake box or even batch are exactly the same...they DO vary..any 2 disks from the SAME BOX can be enough to cause probs on some 'picky' DVD players.
