Originally I had put a children's movie on to two VCDs' and then was
informed they couldn't be played on a particular stand-alone DVD
    player!

I have now somehow managed to "convert" Part I and Part II into two separate lots of Vob files (810,638) and 716,026 kb. As you can detect,
I tend to work in the dark somewhat here.

When I endeavour to compile all of these Vob files from both Part I and
Part II, Nero tries to over-write the first lot with the second lot.
Obviously, I want them all, or I will end up with a too short movie!!

Should I be joining them in same way before I attempt to burn?

Helpful comments would be much appreciated, thank you.

    Ruth.

Before bothering you further, I will have a go following the above tutorial above which seems very clear and will "author" with TMPGEnc as you suggested and see how I get on! If I don't succeed (and I'm thinking positive here!)I may ask for your help again. Your suggestions above are most helpful in the interim, thank you.

Yep, I'd extract the MPEGs from DAT files using VCDGear, then just drop the MPEGs as-is straight into TMPGEnc DVD Author (fully functional, 30 day free trial). The only thing that needs to change with VCD MPEGs to make them DVD-compliant is the audio resampled to 48KHz, which TDA does automatically for you.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Thanks Jimmalenko. I wish it were that simple! It's not straightforward!
I need to have the content from both CDs' to burn the whole movie.

VideoCD Part 1. On this I have the following:
    Folder EXT, which holds SCANDATA.DAT = 13kbs.
    Folder MPEG2, which holds file AVSEQ01.MPG = 715,528 kb.
    Folder SVCD, which holds files: ENTRIES.SVD = 2kb., INFO.SVD = 2 kb.,
    LOT.SVD = 64 kb., PSD.SVD = 1 kb., SEARCH.DAT = 13 kb., TRACKS.SVD = 2kb.

    VideoCD Part 2. (separate disk)
    Folder EXT, which holds SCANDATA.DAT = 13kb.
Folder MPEG 2, which holds file ACSEQ01.MPG = 710,063 kb.
    Folder SVCD, which holds files: Entries.SVD = 2kb., INFO.SVD = 2kb.,
    SEARCH.DAT = 13kb., TRACKS.SVD = 2 kb. That's all on this disk.

It really is that simple. Open TMPGEnc DVD Author, add the AVSEQ01.MPG file from disk 1, then add the AVSEQ01.MPG from disk 2.

    exactly

... however, TMPGEnc DVD Author won't allow you to do that for these two files, since I actually think you might have SVCD - you have an SVCD folder, and a MPEG2 folder, and MPEG files, instead of DAT files

In this case, AFAIK DVD-lab will author SVCD MPEGs as-is, but I know for a fact that TMPGEnc DVD Author won't touch them with a barge pole. If you wish to use TDA, then you'll need to re-encode to a DVD-compliant resolution, as SVCD (480 x 480/576) is not DVD-compliant.

I daresay your friend's DVD player can't play SVCD (which isn't all that uncommon).
    If in doubt, Google it.

Thank you - at this stage of the game (and if it wasn't such a challenge I'd
forget the whole thing ) I will go with DVD Lab. Say a prayer for me, the printed tutorial is 13 pages long

I daresay your friend's DVD player can't play SVCD (which isn't all that uncommon).

Not just that, It's a brand new top of the range Japanese brand and won't load or read anything but -R and -RW,
our common or garden brand takes absolutely everything! It has cost me a fortune trying to find a format that their DVD player can read <VBG>

Jimmalenko, I successfully used DVD-lab thanks.

Have you yourself used this programme?

It was real hit and miss stuff trying to "link" movie 1
to movie 2, so that I ended up with one continuous movie!

If you have used it and done this, would you mind
sharing the method you used for this particular
    aspect of it?

I can't say I have used it very much - I've had a bit of a look at the free trial, but TMGPEnc DVD Author does all I need it to do so I generally use that. I just know from others here that SVCDs can be authored directly using DVD-lab, so that's why I recommended it

Maybe try the guides section - also look for a user named reboot, who has a link to a number of DVD-lab guides in his signature - the link is here ...
    If in doubt, Google it.

It turned out to be a very good programme, especially as TEMPGEnc DVD
Author wouldn't come at 2 similar MPG files as you had said!!

Have sent him an email (I don't think he frequents this Board too often) - I see he is in Canada, probably asleep right now.
Soooooo useful when one is in the same country <VBG> Thanks again.
