Hi, I am a newbie trying to convert some avi files with subtitles into mpeg2 for svcd burning. I followed instructions on the ffmpegx website. It then starts to starts to encode, but then fails once it reaches 100%. I didn't really play around with the settings. i also got a .mpv file, which was not what the insturctions said should result. The resulting video has not sound and the subtitles only last until the middle. Could any of you help and let me know what I am doing wrong? Here is a screen shot of the logfile. I took out some of the middle part.

  2. The video size of 640x480 that you used is wrong. NTSC SVCD is always 480x480. Try again and if you get again the same error, keep the .mpv file, then convert your AVI to audio only by using the 'movie audio to mp2' preset, finally combine the mpv and mp2 files by using the "Mux as.. SVCD" tool.

Thanks for the heads up. i did what you said and i produced ,mpg file. I use roxio toast 6 for burning, and it wouldn't allow me to burn the file because it wad bigger than the disc. i also couldn't use the edit function to specify a time sequence. Is there an easy way to split the file at this point, or should I split the video and audio files in the beginning and then mux them separately? Thanks for the help

How big is the mpeg file? Did you use the Super Video CD setting in Toast?

It is around 2.7 GB. I did use the SVCD setting. I tried using the VCD setting, but it also didn't alow me to choose the trim the movie.

To recap the steps I did before:

    1. avi and srt file encoded to mpeg (it did not encode properly), giving me only mpv
    2. avi audio encoded into mp2 separately
    3. muxed both files as svcd
    4. Cannot burn the resulting mpg file because it is too big

    Thanks
