  1. I just went to the front page of videohelp. And there's a add for free Ipods. And members that have been on the board for more then a year can not add there link for a free ipod to there signature.

Every one hates people posting freeipods posting with fake people coming on board. And I do too, but why place a add on this site for one? It's like videohelp is contradicting it's self.

But they're paying for it, someone has to pay the bills. Having said that considering the traffic this site gets I'd have to say any ad no matter what it is on the front page is not that big a deal IMO. How many sites do you visit that offer free services like this one that don't bombard you with ads?

If it's bugging you that bad you should have shot it as the ad suggests.

Edit: having just visited the main page, I see 0 ads.

  3. I doubt he (Mr.B) has a choice of what ads are actualy placed there. I bet it was sold to someone/company and they sell their space to others

BTW, I agree 100% if you can be banned on the spot for posting a link to it, then there shouldn't be ads for it!!!!!!

As was stated above the primary difference is that advertising is being paid for. Just like we ban media seller shills, but they are allowed to do paid advertising on the site.

I link directly to the 'Latest Posts'. Never see the front page unless I want to. You do have options.

Hmmmm, log out and load the front page. -OHHHH- the horror. Now that I think about it I'm pretty sure I remember Baldrick mentioning this before.

I have most media and video related ads but some fastclick banners also. I filter out the worst annoying banners(flashing, audio and similiar) but I don't check what they are for....like free ipods.

And just go to the forum and log in to get rid of all banners.

  9. I set my computer to remember my login and pw for this site, so I never have to manually log in and never see any ads.

Advertising in forum posts is a completely different thing. It's annoying. Most forums aren't built for advertising or selling of your wares. They are built for exchange of information about a given topic. Most people are annoyed by banner ads and pop-ups. When you read a forum post advertisement, IMHO, it's worse than both of those combined.

Yea that's great right up until the point it starts blocking non-ad images or content from your own site and realize it's not such a good idea.
