  1. Ok when you choose Frame Accurate Editing instead of Video Mode Editing when you do HDD---->DVD, it saids that you cannot do a high speed copy. So does that mean the quality will not be the same if it does the recording in real time? I don't care about doing it in real time, I'm just worried that it won't be the quality of the original.

I have the Pioneer 510H and, according to the manual, the editing is similar to the 531H. However, my experience may be different than yours.

I typically do frame accurate editing in the Navigator window rather than in a playlist. This is more risky because once you delete something it's not still available like it is with a playlist edit. However, I can still do high-speed copying along with my frame accurate edits.

A drawback is that where the edits appear there will be a brief freeze (or pause) of the video when played back from the burned DVD-R. It's similar to what you see on a commercial DL DVD where the layer break occurs.

When I edit in the playlist I don't use frame accurate editing. The frames I lose (or gain) are typically around commercial breaks and they are no big deal to me.

If I did choose to do frame-accurate editing in the playlist then I'd also choose to encode the video to the HDD at a high quality setting and then use real-time recording to DVD at whatever the appropriate setting should be. This way it is unlikely I could notice any quality loss (it might be there but I won't see it).

  3. Re-encoding probably actually only occurs at the edit point. That's how it works for software frame accurate MPEG2 editors like MPEG-VCR and MPEG Video Wizard. There is no loss of quality since the rest of the file is not re-encoded (unless it is also being compressed to fit).
