My aunt went from a small V8 Chevy Malibu to one of the first Ford Escorts ever made (in America)....she said she would never buy a Ford again because they were too slow....Originally Posted by SquirrelDip![]()

hech54 - a lot of the problems with vw's in the usa may be because where they are made .... i'm just guessing , as the ones i owned were fine for the most part (a gti i had went through spark plugs like butter and the clutch self destructed at only 30,00km) .. I know several people with A6's also and they love them .. but i know a lot of people with TT's and hate them and have had lots of problems (several web sites just onthat models problems) and the VW SUV has been really an issue for reliability - as in bad..
There are so many D jetta's here in canada it is not funny... very popular model .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
My dad had a Rabbit once upon a time and that thing had 260k miles on it before it went to the junkyard. My uncle still uses his old Subaru GL wagon for going out camping/kayaking and it has over 300k miles on it and still going. I had a 1G DSM (first generation Eclipse) with 176k miles on it on the first engine that was pushing 300hp with a 16G turbo and that was still going strong as ever when I sold it. These are all good examples of how well these cars last.
I like the diesel VWs. If I were ever to buy a FWD car for daily driving it would be one of those. I just can't get out of driving AWD cars, just too much experience with their capabilities and I honestly don't consider FWD cars to be "performance" cars. Yeah there are some great FWD cars like the Neon SRT-4, Honda/Acura ITR, and the Celica GT-S, but given the dynamics of acceleration RWD and AWD cars perform the best.FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -
I don't care what anyone says. I'll never get Toyota. My fiance has the Honda Civic she wants to sell it. She wants Mazda instead, now owned by the Ford Motor Company. She test drive each one, she sees the difference.
Every time I get on the Interstate it is a Toyota in front slowing down the line. Can't get over 60 with them things. The "performace cars" people make out with them is just a few minor adjustment for the engine and exhaust system modification. The thing basically a tin can on wheels so It will fly if you modify engine.
My car? A 1989 Ford Crown Victoria. Fancy? No. It's old, and needs a little work. But never a major problem. 150,000+ miles. Replaced water pump 2 years back, alternator 3 years back. Had an issue with gas gague (thanks, sHell) Engine never modified or rebuilt, is same condition as it from new until now. After 15 years, it still goes 95+ MPH (don't try that). It need some work, a leaky seal, a stuk power door, and body paint began fading this year. But for 15 years it has been the mos reliable vehicle I know. (A/C Retrofit will not put hole through Ozone Layer.)
My grandfather had his 1950 Ford truck for years. Bed rusting from dumping in salt water for launching boat, but a damn good engine. Sold it a few years back, it's still running as he sees in on Veteran's Highway.
I know about VW. My parents had one in the 80s. They tell you, worst car ever. Never had to change radiators so much. Speedometer goes out. Twice. Then the gas gauge. Sunroof leaks so much and now a moldy smell in car.
BMW, Mercedes are probly nice. Expensive though, and I hear getting parts more difficult. Won't have it, though drove a Mercedes in the UK. (Extremely difficult with the steering wheel thing)
I could buy a Toyota tommorrow. They are so cheap. But I wouldn't get caught ded in thing, and there has the saying "you get what you pay for.."Funny Steel Mills workers don't drive it. I guess the tell a solid built car from a Coke can on wheels.
I don't really have thing against the People of Japan. I've been there and they make humungous city. Though I don't care much for animight, there has some interesting stuff there. Can't forget about Pearl Harbor, though.
I do buy Japan products. I have Panasonic and Sony. I sell the products every day in the store. If I didn't believe these products, I would only push the Philips. I am open about the Asian products. We actually have some from Korea. Have you heard about Samsung and LG? I help customer every day with these product. I even have some myself. But there has to draw the line somewhere.
I didn't try to make anyone mad. Just no go try to change my ways. -

I think jackel is eating too much cajun food,I've owned cars from all three American(sic) companies and by far my Ford's had the most problems.
BTW...Acuras were the most stolen cars in America for 2004.

I have owned a VW, honda accord and a mazda (before Ford bought control of it). My current car, a new Mazda 6S is the first quasi-american I've owned. (I'm not really counting the Mustang in here, as it's still a work in progress, but I guess I do own a pure-bred US car). Never had any major problems outside of routine maintenance/aging.

Integra are stolen a lot because streetracers blow so many engines

I freaking LOVED my Ford F150 4x4....but the rest of my cars have been VW and Toyota. Had a 1980 Ford Fiesta that I loved too but....lord only knows where that car's heart lies....it had an English Kent engine and looked amazingly like the VW Polo that was made at the same exact time....though America never got the Polo....I still think America DID get a Polo...called it a Ford Fiesta - The World Car...
Here's a cool car for you import fans:

Keep in mind also that Toyota is planning to go to all hybrid cars (I think their truck line is staying the same) by 2009 or something. Hybrids and alternative-fuel vehicles are the future, and it takes guts to do be the first to take that step. I give Toyota a lot of respect for that.
Meanwhile if anyone wants a turbocharged Impreza 2.5RS I've got one for sale, or am I gonna get in trouble for advertising
Getting one of these instead:

You say you can't forget Pearl Harbor but it seems to me you don't understand or have knowledge what the JAPANESE AMERICAN's had to deal with during the war and the aftermath of Pearl Harbor.
Let me enlighten you......The AMERICAN JAPANESE in the United States during WWII were taken from their homes on suspision that they had ties to the Japan government even though they were born AMERICAN CITIZENS. They were put into internment camps on the west coast, midwest and even here in Honolulu, Hawaii.....Their homes, businesses and property were confiscated by the government....During the WWII era the term JAPS was used as a slang for Japanese.....Therefore I find it offensive that you use the term so free and willingly....Upon being released from those internment camps the government did not return those homes, businesses and properties back to the American Japanese....The US GOVERNMENT apologized to the AMERICAN JAPANESE that were interned at camps and a formal apology was made and restitution were given to those who were put in those internment camps....Nothing can replace the humiliation and suffering of those who were sent to those internment camps....
jackal70058 going to Japan doesn't support you using the term JAP. I am not trying to change your mind or to steer you one way or another on how you feel about Japanese manufactured cars. You're entitled to your own opinions just like everyone else.
Sorry for going off topic but I feel offended when the term JAP was used. All I wanted was to enlighten jackal70058 to not use the term so freely. -

The guy only then realized there was a infant in the backseat of the truck. A amber alert was sent out island wide. The guy ditched the truck in a church parking lot. He approached the truck, the license plate matched the text msg and he took the baby out of the truck and contacted the police.
Bozo awards to those parents and luckily in both cases the infants were not harmed or injured.

People who say all american cars are crap are ignorant.
The only gm car made in korea is the chevy aveo, a piece of sh*t.
Apparently the cool thing to do is bash american cars, even though they don't deserve it.
this comes from JD Power and Associates:
General Motors: Award-Recognized Quality
This year, 28 models from General Motors brands rank among the top three in their respective segments, and GM plants receive Gold and Silver awards for highest initial quality in North/South America for three years running. The results of the J.D. Power and Associates 2004 Initial Quality StudySM (IQS), Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS), and Customer Service Index (CSI) StudySM demonstrate GM’s continuous improvement on vehicle quality, durability, manufacturing, and dealer service.

My comments above were in jest and a responce to jackal70058's comments.
IMO, in the compact market there are better options than what the American companies produce. These just happen to be the size of cars that I've owned and I have never owned an American product.
I have, however, driven countless American products and in the Midsize and up vehicles there are many good choices in cars (and trucks).
Point being that there's crap from all manufacturers and there's at least a few good from most. -
Nobody beats the classic American muscle. And I mean classic, not all the new stuff.
I'd still take a corvette any day over a Ferrari. Sure, the Ferrari gets a split second faster 0-60, but my pocketbook won't take as big a hit! -

I respect old classic muscle cars but I don't think they compare to Ferrari when put on a track. Ferraris weigh a lot less than the big old steel muscle cars. Weight is pretty much equal to power when considering a "performance" car. In fact weight is more important because it affects braking and cornering performance as well as acceleration whereas engine power only counts for acceleration on the track.
