  1. Hello, I have a DVD that is getting kind of scratched up. I wanted to back it up before it was ruined. The DVD still plays fine in my 3 DVD players, and in my computer. However, when I tried using DVD Shrink to back it up, I got a 'cyclic redundancy error,' and when I later tried using DVD XCopy, it also had an error. Is there any way I can back up this DVD? I'm afraid that the kids may ruin this one. Thanks in advance for your advice and help!

  3. These errors are usually caused by scratches/damage on the discs.

You can try ripping it with DVDFAB Decrypter as mentioned by freebird or you can also try DVDdecrypter.

If they fail to rip the disc then I would suggest trying to rip from another drive as some drives can be more fussy than others.
I usually rip from my DVD-ROM drive but in the past when I have had problem discs I have found that my DVD writer was able to read the bad sectors better.

    Give it a try.

HARRYSPADGE is correct. Try alternative rippers and dvd drives.

Standalone dvd players are better at playing dvds with errors than PC dvd drives. PC dvd drives do more of a bit to bit reading, especially if using a software ripper and therefore are more sensative to errors.

Though the dvd may play fine in your standalones, you could have a problem trying to rip it with any dvd drive. It never hurts to tray anyway. Also, try vobblanker and ISOBuster and give the dvd disc a good clean beforehand.
