I finally got my ATI TV Wonder card to work, but the volume level when I play back mpeg or avi captures is lower than I would like, and full of hiss;it sounds fine when I'm recording, but I get the aforementioned lower volume/hiss on playback.I know about going into the volume control and setting the recording volume levels; I moved the slider up all the way to the top,first for the external/input method, and then for the internal/cd player method where you hook up the cables.The internal method seems to give me a slightly louder level, but the graph still just barely registers.Anyone have an idea as to why this is happening? Also, when capturing in avi format, the picture is jaggy, and some colors look washed out... is this how an avi should look like before encoding it to mpeg 1 or 2?

robpas,
I'm not sure what your problem is, as far as colors go, but maybe it's
because of whatever CODEC you are using during your caps, that is, if
you are capping w/ another app besides mmc.
* what app are U using to capture with
* R U using any codecs
* how R U using (exactly) you audio out from your source?
* ? brand soundcard R U using?
* 44K or 48K ??
* AVI's are always Interlaced, so you'll see strange video, especially in
fullscreen view.
* hiss could be any nuber of problems, but, if you can't straighten it out,
my suggestion is to try a cheap audio card for $19 at compusa and see
if hiss and other audio issues go away.
* R U planning on burning? ...VCD or SVCD, etc.? ?
Hopefull, you're not planning on viewing your avi's by burning them to cd - crazy!

MMC 7.1.... I did get Virtualdub to work last night, but then it crashed after I set it up the way suggested by the "How To Capture Lossless AVI..." how to.Now, every time I try to capture using the "Capture AVI" button, Virtualdub hangs.Once, I got this blue screen message:
OE 0028: C004AA8A IN VXD VFAT (01)+ 00008AB2
THIS WAS CALLED FROM
0028: C005A1A3 IN VXD VTDAP (01) + 000000ACB
* R U using any codecs
When I'm using MMC 7.1, probably not.Only got Virtualdub to work once,so I don't remember if any codecs were loaded.
* how R U using (exactly) you audio out from your source?
RCA cable from the output of my vcr
* ? brand soundcard R U using?
It looks like a soundcard that's integrated into the motherboard;It has a ribbon cable that connects to the mobo...it doesn't use a pci slot.It's listed as C-Media 18738/C3DX Audio Device in Device Manager.
* 44K or 48K ??
What does this mean?
* AVI's are always Interlaced, so you'll see strange video, especially in
fullscreen view.

Mostly VCD, but I wouldn't mind trying SVCD eventually.

No, I'm aware that you have to convert them to the mpeg format.
Thanks,

I was using my integrated motherboard sound card too at first. The sound was good for playback of mp3 or other people's .mpg but all my recordings had really bad sound with a lot of distortion. I bought a separate soundcard (Fortissimo II) and now everything is fine. The motherboard I have is an Epox 8KHA+ with a VIA KT266a chipset.

I'm guessing that you have a soundblaster live 5.1 as a soundcard, and possible (more then likely) a ABIT KT7 motherboard in one of it's various forms. So before I go any further what motherboard, soundcard, and operating system do you have?

you can always use the mic input on your sound card and select that, just make sure you start with the volume all the way down, or you could go through a preamp first. strange problem.

Also had sound problems with the ATI 128 Pro, after installing lost sound completely, could not get anything to work, MP3, system sounds nothing, after I re-installed the Soundblaster drivers from their Web site, everything fell back into place, now all works great. Something eles to try.

I guess the easiest solution might be to get a small headphone amp from radio shack, about $15 and put it between your tv card and your line in on your sound card, one other question, is the volume slider up all the way on your tv application, don't know on your sound card if this affects you tuner cards output or not, also, what does it sound like coming out of the tuner card, hook up a set of headphones, is it low and hissy, if it sounds good there then then problem is with your sound card, either drivers or hardware, you need to find out which card is the problem then go from there.
