  1. I just re-encoded two episodes using dvd2svcd from AVI sources to mpg and mp2.

I had to convert the audio to PCM wav using VirtualDub (and stream it to AVI) before encoding, due to the original was causing besweet to barf on the transcoding. At this time I boosted the audio from 100% to 200%. I specifically remember doing this for both avi's.

I just took a listen to both intro's and the first episode sounds perceptably louder than the second. Is there a way I can bring down the first mp2 to something closer to the second eps? I know I could probably ear-ball it, but if there were some app that could sample them and do it for me, that would be smackin'.

    Thanks,
    Joe

If you extract the audio using a program such as GoldWave. You can then use it to adjust sound levels (there is a setting for max sound). It will make all audio match its max levels. All of my output files have been identical in sound levels.

It sounds like your original files are not equal in sound levels. Then you increased them both by the same amount. So you basically amplified an existing issue. Or you can experiment with the way you are currently doing it and only increase the 2nd file by 175% or whatever, until you get it close to the other.

  3. Yeah, I tried various normalizing techniques and that didn't really seem to even it out. I also check the original sources, and they indeed were not even - CLOSE but not even.

    Thanks anyway

If the audio is a bit too loud then it wont be changed, best to set it lower manually and do the same with the other audio track to match it.
