  1. i want to know what kind of difference am i going to see for capturing and moniter display between the ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 7500 AGP, ATI 9800, or 9600. which one is better

  2. the 9600 and 9800 are both good...the 9800 being SLIGHTLY better, the 7500 is old and is only a 64mb video card whereas the other 2 are 128mb........i'd personally jump for the 9800

In reguards to capture quality, between those three cards, there will be little, if any capture differance... as far as monitor display type stuff and gameplay type stuff both the 9600 and 9800 are pretty good...the 7500 is already dated to the point where it wont be able to play SOME newer games.

  3. 7500 - No

I've had both the AiW 9700 Pro and AiW 9800 Pro. I think the tuner and Theater chip is the same in both the 9800 and 9600, however the graphics engine is quite different. If you're not into playing graphics demanding games like a FPS, then go with the 9600 or 9600 Pro, otherwise the 9800 Pro is a good value now.

Someone posted recently that they saw a huge difference between their old 8500DV and their new 9600XT.

Can someone recommend a low end all in wonder type of card? One that uses AGP bus?

ZZYZZX - If you are not going to play games, then the AIW 7500 is more than adequate. I get perfect captures via s-video or composite connections. The tuner can be a little flakey from some cable feeds (Cox). An even cheaper card would be the ATI DDR64 VIVO, it is my primary capture from a VCR.

I have the ATI AIW 9200 that is AGP. I have not had any issues with Capturing with it. I mainly do Home movies off of VHS.

I have a AIW 8500DV and a AIW 9000 Pro. For games the 8500 is till a bit faster, but I think the video quality of the 9000 is better.

What do you think of this one:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133143
PNY PCFX5700APB Geforce FX5700 128MB DDR VIVO AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail
    Model #: PCFX5700APB

    Item #: N82E16814133143

I think the closest thing to it is this review:

Probably the same card under a different name.

Or an old Matrox G400TV? I occasionally see them on eBay.

  10. Matrox G400eTV or G450eTV aren't good choices for video capture (outdated, lotsa quirks -- I have one). There are better choices around for $20+. Matrox cards have great TV output though (S-video and composite).

I thought the worst thing about the Matrox cards was lack of Windows 2000 and Windows XP driver support.

It's not the ATI installs that bother me, it's the ATI drivers. I've gotten the impression that unless you have an Intel branded MB, then avoid ATI, because they don't test with anything else.

The GeForce is a video card with Video In and Out, the All-In-Wonder range is a video card with Video In and Out and an onboard TV tuner. If you want to watch (or capture) TV on your PC, the GeForce is a non-starter.

If you only want to use the card for capturing and don't use the PC for playing games, ANY Radeon based All-In-Wonder will be fine.

That's probably outdated info. I've heard no such complaints on modern VIA boards, or even the non-VIA AMD boards.

I still have the G450eTV installed and working in a Windows XP SP2 machine. There was a period of time when Matrox didn't support XP (although Win2000 drivers worked if you could get them installed). They finally relented and now have an official XP/2000 release. It's not Windows Certified though.

According to the NewEgg Site, the PNY card does have a tuner.

If it matters, I have an AMD Sempron 2500 with 512MB Ram. Will I need a capture card that does hardware compression to capture for DVD or not?
