  1. Just got a new Pioneer 531 HD recorder yesterday from Wal$mart. It has lots of features and excellant recorded video quality.

I recorded a 2 hour movie on the HD in dvd video mode with auto chapter creation set at 10 minutes... It did not create any chapters as the manual implies that it will.

Is this normal with Pioneer HD recording or am I missing something?

I can add chapters manually when editing. I had no problem lopping (editing) off the edits of the video and high speed copying it to a DVD-R.

I have or have owned ILo04, Lite-on 5101, Philips DVDR75, Philips DVDR77, Panasonic ES10k, Pioneer 225S, and a Sony GX300. This is my first HD recorder and but I've never had trouble with chapter creation on non-HD DVDs.

Auto chapter only works on real-time Video mode recording. In VR mode (and HDD)recording, chapter needs to be added manually and will be preserved during high-speed dubbing from HDD to DVD.

Also note that recordings on HDD are always in VR mode, the video mode option on HDD is used to enable or disable high-speed dubbing option.
