  1. I have lots of WMV files I would like to convert to a format that my dvd player handel (Have a Divx player). I have tried to convert to avi using xvid codec and divx 6 codec. The quality has been pretty good, but the size on some files can be like 3-4 time bigger than the original.

So what is the best a way to get these WMV files to a format played by my player, but not get to big files and in the same way get high quality? Is it possible or most I expect that some files get very large after the converting?

Lower the video bitrate. Use a bitrate calculator and then use the calculated bitrate as the average bitrate. You must use cbr or 2-pass(a bit better quality) encoding.

And be sure to use some kind of audio compression like mp3.

  3. If the original is WMV file is very compressed like 30minutes on 100mb file. Is it still possible to convert it to 150-200mb file or will it be a 300-400mb file no matter what method and program I use?

  4. You have to calculate the bitrate. WMV uses low bitrate, especially in the audio, you have to find the best compromise between the quality and the file size. Lower bitrates smaller files. You can also obtain the same file size using the same bitrate, but the quality will be lower (especially the audio as I said, Windows Media Audio is good at 64kbp/s, MP3 isn't good at this bitrate).

If you set the bitrate you can get exact size. Xvid codec configuration, .

Around 334kbit/s with 128kbit/s mp3 audio for a 30 minute to become 100MB. You can calculate with the builtin xvid calc or https://www.videohelp.com/calc

  6. Thanks for your replays just one more question. Which codec would you recommend me to use to get the best results, combination of quality and size. Xvid, divx, mpeg1, mpeg2 or is there maybe a better codec for converting WMV?
