I recently got a Compaq iPAQ 3765 for Christmas (early gift) and I have been watching my DVD rips on it. The quality is exceptional. I was thinking about getting a palm dvd player until I saw the iPAQ. It has movie playing capablities plus Pocket PC OS 2002. The only sacrafice is size. The screen is small, but it is a must for a person on the go. I can fit The Matrix on a 128MB compact flash card. The reason this is possible is because you encode the bitrate lower. IF YOU ARE ALWAYS ON THE GO..YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIS!!!. At school I can watch movies during class, and with a backlit display, you can watch them in the dark. Even the sound quality has deep bass with headphones, but don't let the little speaker fool you, it also packs some nice audio. The battery in the iPAQ lasts for about 8 to 10 hours depending on the brightness level you have it at. Guys, listen, you seriously have to get this if you don't already have one.

  2. How bad of quality did it have to be to fit a full length movie on one 128mb card? What bitrates did you use for the audio and video?

  3. DamN! I need an IPAQ! Watching the matrix during class,or in long lines at the mall! The possibilites!

    $489 ..damn.

    PDA display
    Display size: 2.26" x 3.02"
Display type: Touch-sensitive TFT LCD Display
    Display colors: 240 x 320 with 4,096 colors

Even at low bitrates im sure it looks great. Its not like creating a VCD at 320x240 and stretching it on a dvd player with a huge tv.Im sold! Thank you ComPaq Representative...

The quality of the video is still very close to DVD quality. This is possible because of the smaller resolution (320x240) and I use a bitrate of around 350-500k depending on how much space I have available and how long the movie is. The audio is encoded to around 96k/sec and 44.1khz. When I bought my iPAQ I only payed $350 for it. Best Buy had a $100 instant rebate and $50 mail in rebate. Yes it was a retail iPAQ from the factory. I think they still have the sale going on. Also I'm getting the CF expansion pack to put a wireless netcard in it to stream audio and video from my home PC. The wireless LAN goes up to 1500 feet, and I am only 250 feet from the school, so the signal will be strong enough to go through a few walls. All my friends are now getting the pocket pc's so I set up a wireless network for us to chat and share files on. I also play Pocket Doom and Pocket Quake against them during class.

But why do it all on a pocket pc?? =)
Everyone i our class got a 650 mhz laptop, and of course we have a network in the school with broadband, so we watch moives and of course play quake 3 on the lessons! =]

Did everyone in you class by the laptops on their own..or did the school provide them? My 206mhz pocketPC is faster, has more ram, more storage space, and more color display than our school's computers and laptops..LMFAO!! OMG our school always claims they have the best technology but really, we suck. My "crew" has h4xored their network so many times it isn't funny. We just pop the firewall and hack them. Well maybe it is a little funny when not one computer or server in the school has a formatted disk. Anyway I got carried away..my original question was did u or the school buy the laptops? Thanx.

Why do you go to class to watch a movie on your iPAQ? Seems like a wasted trip to me.

  8. We got them from the school..
I'm going on a snew program that is called, NV IT (NV stands nature, and it don't know if you have that word IT in english but IT has to do with computors.. i live in sweden)
So on our school there are like 4 IT classes and every student in those classes gets a computor, but we have to return it when you quit the school...
