  5. Forget Lucasarts and all their Star Wars stuff. They pissed me off when they cancelled all of the good adventure games. All they care about is Star Wars. Give us gamers back unique ADVENTURE GAMES like SAM & MAX, Full Throttle.

    P.S.
I have NOT seen this movie yet. And will not waste money on it, until Lucasarts gets off the Star Wars wagon!

  9. Thats the reason he and his company have kept star wars alive. It became nothing after jedi was released. No toys or video were released for the longest time. He wants to keep messing with his movies he can, their his babies and as for releasing version after version Ill only buy one. Dont need 5 different ones. At least he finally realized that dvd is in control of the video sales thus Lucasfilm is releasing sith on dvd only. No vhs.

As far as people bashing SW dont you remember when you were kids thinking it was the coolest thing going. Thats the way kids look at it now.I look through the eyes of my son now who is a freak over the movies. He thinks he's a jedi, and thinks Im the sith. lol. Ill admit that they didnt live up to everyone expectations but what movie really does besides LOTR trilogy but thats a whole different genre of film. Without Lucasfilm and ILM who knows what the special fx industry would be like . Probably would be good but not great.

Excellent news. I didn't care for Phantom Menace when it came out. Clones was tolerable in that it setup several storylines to follow, however Sith ties everything together rather nicely. I watched I + II just prior to seeing Sith in the theater. Amazing how much you miss when you don't care for a movie. I now appreciate the story setup of Menace, the pre-war theme of Clones, but nothing could prepare me for what occurs in Sith.

Those who detract from the movie(any movie for that matter) are just jealous that they didn't think of all this first. They think the movie should have done this or shouldn't have done that. Well . . . we don't see any of their names attached to hollywood blockbusters now do we? In most cases, I doubt we ever will.

    ROF,

To say that the people who critisize a movie are only jealous they didn't think it up in the first place is ridiculous. Movies are made to entertain the masses, and when movies don't entertain, people complain, or when they succeed, they praise. It has very little to do with jealousy.

So, according to your logic, People who bitch about how the Bulls or Bears sucked this year are jealous that they're not the coach or that they didn't get sacked 3 times or broke their ankle? I don't think so.

I think out of any emotion you can equate the outpouring of complaints about the NT is more about love than jealousy. Do you think most wives complain about their husband's drinking because they're jealous? Same thing with fans. Fans of all types have a certain love for something, and when they see what they love going down (what they perceive) the wrong track, they complain.

Are you telling me the guy dressed up as a Jedi in the front row during the Midnight Showing of The Phantom Menace yelled, "It sucked!" afterwards because he was Jealous? Give me a break.

Bought the Phantom Menace Region code 1 just to make sure that the sales guy claim is correct(i.e. the LG DVD recorder is region free). He is an honest sales guy. Some said that region code 1 is better then 3. Bull Shit ! The packaging looks and feels like import stuff.

Since I already have all the Star Wars DVD, why not make it a full collection ? I will stick region code 3. It's cheaper !

Criticizing a movie is different then what you see in this thread and many others. Criticizing and detracting are two separate matters. I never said criticizing a movie (with examples of course) is wrong. It's actually quite good. That's called constructive criticism. It's another thing to call the director or producer names, belittle how many times he/she wants to make changes to his/her artwork, bemoan merchandising his/her movie, and so forth. Those are not criticism, that's detraction and usually stems from jealousy or they need a bandwagon to jump on, so they join the "B" crowd. Kinda like the Microsoft detractors you see every so often.

So logically, there's a big difference between criticism and detraction. You can speak "ill" about any subject and distract or detract from the subject matter or you can speak "ill" about a subject and criticize it. Those that detract fall into two categories: jealous and ignorant. Those that criticize have a brilliant eye for attention to detail and aren't afraid to spout off why they feel the way they do. Criticism is superb, whereas Detraction is absurd.

Hope that explains things. With that said, I'm quite sure you can see the difference between the two by only reading a few posts in this thread. There are examples of both throughout.

  17. cool, thanks for that post above.i needed a nap,and that did the trick.
as for being jealous of not thinking it up first..i was 5 when the original came out..not much thinking going on there apart from where my next comic, toy, and meal were coming from.
but the original trilogy, pretty much explained everything, what happened,to the characters, and general SW universe,i beleive he only "wrote" the new ones,to pad it out,and explain it for the dumb masses that couldnt understand the matrix, because youll notice in the new 3, theres not much heavy dialogue going on.
all in all original trilogy 10/10
new trilogy 3/10 IMO,1 for each of them.
theres a phrase people could use, its"use your imagination",people these days want to see storys, about explaining what went on in the befores and up to's of the original 3..the mtv generation.
    the new 3....they werent needed.

  18. If I were to base each movie 1 out of 10 this is how it would go with me
Phantom menace---1/10 All that wizard and jarjar sucked

Attack of the clones 5/10 Much better than Menace

Revenge of the Sith-8/10 Loved that sabre fights Wished we could have seen Vader use his sabre against someone.

A New Hope----------9/10 Its the first one . The star destroyer flying over head sold me.

Empire strikes back-10/10 Best story out of them all

Return of the jedi----0/10 Frigin ewoks sucked along with the acting.
Didnt even like Jedi when I was young but still bought the trilogy to have them and take up space shelf.

No problem on the napping reading material, from the looks of it, it appears that's how you watch your movies, with your eyes closed too.

I do have a couple questions for you though, if the original trilogy explained everything, what happened to the characters and general star wars universe, why are most people ***Spoiler Ahead*** shocked to find out that Darth Vader (Little Anny) wiped out the majority of the Jedi? Did millions of people know this all along? Were they keeping it a secret from the hundreds of millions of fans?

The MTV Generation does not apply in this case, nor many others. Did you know the origins of Boba Fett? Did you know the ensuing origins of the Clone Wars? Not to mention all the politics which I won't spoil for those who haven't seen these masterpieces?

I think the MTV generation has an advantage in that they can view the previous trilogy without the "fascination" those of us who saw them back when they were released. You can make up storylines all you want, but until you produce mega-blockbusters or at the very least open your eyes, I don't think you'll ever comprehend the meaning of detraction.

  20. er....first trilogy,anakin skywalker=lukes father.
    lukes father=darth vader.
darth vader=most powerful jedi, puppet of the emperor, and "wiper outer" of the jedi..so.......mtv generation as in -they need to see it,explaining it isnt enough nowadays.
if memory serves me correctly, all through the first 3 these facts were revealed in.
as for boba fett, who gives a shit really, character was a shallow one,in the first set,and well, even in the new ones, jango died, and boba was a waste of space too.
as for mtv generation viewing it without the same fascination that we did,its a bad thing,IMO,if there happy with the cgi driven, badly acted sellout of the new 3,then thats fine for them.
and as for your last statement towards my view,,thats just it,its my view, you dont have to share it,so just live with it.
oh,and i do comprehend detraction, not everyone is uneducated.

ROF, please don't critisize people about calling people names, then turn around an insult someone about how they watch movies. Lets keep it from getting too personal.

As far as the subject of detraction, I have to agree with Rottenfoxbreath that if anyone has detracted the name of Star Wars, it was Lucas himself. I really don't believe he had all the Trilogies planned out as most people believe, or else the final battle in ROTJ would have been over Chewbacca's home planet (K-something-or-other).

Lucas, IMO, first hurt his franchise when he released the Special Editions in the theater. With a few exceptions, none of the extra footage was necessary at all, and erased the ingenuity of the original SFX creators by replacing bits of it with meager Computer FX (state-o-the-art at the time, but still too primitive).

As an artist, there is another term Lucas should familiarize himself with, it's called "overworking a piece." Pretty much everything that he's done after initially making the OT has lessened the Star Wars name.

Well since were all doing movie reviews I think Lucas phoned it in on this one. Not a single new special effect. At least the movie before this one had some cool new effects. This one was too long and I am sorry but if you needed to watch the movie to figure out what was going to happen. Well let me just say the story seemed very predictable. I am just glad I got to see natalie portman in a different light in the closer.

  24. The thing I wish he would do is to release The Original trilogy on dvd. He has a HighDef version of it. Im very sure of it. Why wouldnt he? Ive read through
some Star Wars forums and all they say is they want the original movies, not the special editions. Maybe that would help people who crave the true Star Wars movies. I personally dont care but there are people who do. There is a petition out there for it.

they just want to milk you all. He says he will never release the originals as the version out now are the way he wants them

let's just wait until the franchise goes quiet though in another 20 years time (probably less)

I'd love to see the original trilogy released on DVD without all the special edition changes, unfortunately the artist decided to re-work these masterpieces and we are stuck with what the author believes tells the story. There are some things bad and some things good to say about both, but you can't criticize him for wanting to make sure people view his version that he accepts as being true to form. Maybe years down the road we'll be lucky to have them in digital purity, but definitely not now.

BTW, Can anyone point to a scene or a dialog in the Original Trilogy where it says Darth Vader single handedly wiped out the Jedi?? General so and so says something to that effect in Ep 3, but he refers to them as being wiped out, but not by vader. Some here seem to be watching different movies or adding their own dialog in their mind to which they believe an explanation isn't required. I'd be interested in knowing which scene this is stated in. It should also be noted that without Boba, Han Solo would have survived part 5 without being frozen as Vader would have never known to track the falcon to Bespin. Boba also is the only warrior who appears to battle with multiple tactics(sans Mind tricks). Like his father, he is a skilled warrior with a laser, rockets, flamethrowers, and even a whip.

Someone also stated the final battle in ROTJ should have been over Kashyyyk. Really? Are there now two death stars that need to be disabled? I only saw one over Endor. Besides, look at the star charts for the galactic empire to learn the strategic value of Endor when compared to Kashyyyk. That should explain why Endor was the empires chosen staging ground for construction of the "new" deathstar. Look where Kashyyyk sits. Could the empire really build a new deathstar in that location without immediately being crushed by a rebellion that thrived in that star system? I think some people need to learn a thing or two about military tactics and Star Wars Lore before spouting such nonsense.

George Lucas directed two good movies, SW and THX1138 but he even f==cked that up by releasing a directors cut. The man isn't trying to entertain kids anymore he is just trying to squeeze as much of parent's hard earned cash out of them as he can. The only NEW HOPE now is he doesn't make parts 7 to 9 as he said he planned to.

    ROF,

The facts about the Star Wars universe (about where Kashyyk is) that you quote have been made up far after the OT was finished. I'd be very, very suprised if Lucas had his whole universe made up, drawn out on a board listing every planet of importance for the span of the two trilogies, and how every epic battle and rebellion excursions would occur.

It's more likely that some author who is a fan of SW suggested solidifying the universe in a book so other fans would appreciate his brilliance and the book company would make tons of cash.

It is a rarity in creating something that an artist/writer/creator follows his/her original plan.

And Real Military Tactics in a movie are nice, but most of the time aren't really given a second thought, it's more about the action that one sees on the screen. Essentially, someone wrote "So the Empire and the Rebel Fleets start a huge battle over Endor to Destroy the new Death Star" That's probably about the extent of Tactics that Lucas has. It's then shuffled down to the SFX and Storyboard guys to throw in all sorts of neat crap that will make everyone go "oooh!"

Talking about tactics, yes, Boba Fett is sooo much like his Father, they both made the mistake of taking on a Jedi in Melee! HA! How stupid is that? Hello? ranged weapons? It's not like Windu or Luke beat their way to the Fetts, the Fetts went to them. Huge blunder.

You are right about it not being said anywhere in the OT that Vader "single handly" destroyed the Jedi. But from Ben's words and Vader's stature, the fan can assume that he had a pretty big part and took a bunch of Jedi heads. I was too blitz to watch SW: ROTS (Lucas' final insult is in the title :P ) sober, so did Vader actually fight any Jedi, or were they all mowed down in the back by Troopers?
