  1. Probably a silly question with a basic solution, but here goes: When I was using Win 98 with media player 6.4, the icons for Mp3's, wav's, mpeg's and avi's were all different. For example, mp3's had the little blue speaker, wav's had the yellow speaker, mpeg's the blue camera etc etc. It made it easy to identify the file without using other means. I currently use Mediaplayer 9 in Windows XP - the little rainbow icons tell me nothing!

Does anyone know how to get the old "win98-media player 6.4" style icons for media files in Win XP-media player 9? THANKS!

On a window folder menu, Tools >Folder Options > File Types. Left click your filetype, then Advanced > Change Icon. You can browse around to find substitutes.

You may need some icons to substitute. You should be able to download them somewhere on the net. Put them in a folder that you can easily find when you browse for new ones and change away. Some filetypes are generic, so you may not get exactly what you want, but give it a try.
