I can't remember.
It was way back in the vcdhelp days. -
Long ago, I heard that video could be written to CDs. And I began searching for the secret with my AOL browser. Luck would have it that I ended up here.
It is funny, I have heard many salesmen at Comp-USA and other places reccomend this site to their customers. (at least six times by now) And I reccomend it to everyone I know with ANY kind of computer questions.
Thanks to all that contribute!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
Dunno.
But I was interested in VCD. Soon it became a hobby. From there it was like Topsy, it just growed.

I can't remember.
It was way back in the vcdhelp days.

i originally found the site back in probably 2000 or so, took me a long while to register though, and then lost my username and was just plain too lazy to look around to recover it....but ive been poking around here for a VERY long time.

I found this great website by searching in google on how to make VCD's. Back then it was called VCDHELP.COM. I eventually made my way into the DVD stuff. Thanks Baldrick for this great site and to all the other members who've helped me back then when I was a

I can't remember. read to many guides/posts and everything just kinda got blurry in the memory department
-
cant remember either, but it was probably via google I searched for some guides for how to make SVCD's.

Seems I got here from a Google search. I lurked for some time before I joined and posted. Been fun, though, and I've learned a lot. Thanks again, Baldrick.

MaximumPc I think. In any case, a great resource because of all the knowledgeable people here. I couldn't have finished many of the projects I got into without the problem solvers who cruise this forum.

google search about how to copy DVD's, or VHS to DVDr.
Thanks Mike -
Looking for information on putting my videos on cd's that could play in a DVD player. The rest is history.

I know I can't put my finger on it for sure, but..
I voted, "Through a link on another website" but I can't be 100%
sure, though I've seen vcdhelp URL posted in places like DigitalDigest
and a few others.. whereever that tool was, "dvdgenie" I think, is
where I got my start here at vcdhelp. This app could hack your software
dvd player's feature and things, which I found through some search engine,
back in the Yahoo daysAt the same time, I was also searching
for any information on VCD and MPEG.
.
or.., I think it might of ben search engine too, I'm just not sure
I do remember finding you guys some time in Mid or Late 2000 on account
of that tool I think, ..but I didn't register until March 2001
The good old VCD days, hehe.. yeah !!

EDITED.. had to get my fact straight, based on my fading memory. -
I had an HP640 and I remember reading something about VCDin one of it's hepl menus. The thought of putting video on a disk that could be read on most DVD players really "did" it for me - so I set about trying to learn how. One search and you end up here. After that, you realize you don't need to be anywhere else if you want all the info. Right about that time the DVD writers were coming out and I've had a ball. EVERYTHING that I couldn't learn from playing with the programs cane from this site. The people here are the greatest!!!

Hi,
I'm sure it was when divx was first making big news the same way napster was. I did a yahoo search on dvd to divx and shortly found my way here. That was severaly years ago. I have been here ever since

can't exactly remember either...
i know it had something to do with hacking the region code for my shiny new DVD player (about 4 or 5 years ago?).
it was www.vcdhelp.com at that time
not long after that I started to make VCD's and wouldn't have been able to do it without this site!"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

Being a newbie 12/25/2004, I think I got the link from Lordsmurf

I was a complete noob... searching at Yahoo!
for some tips on how to make a VCD.
I remember back then I was able to post on the forum without even need to register in early 2002. Some helpful chap by the name of Ray Smith from Australia gave me some pointers on AVI_IO and PicVideo.. and the rest was history ! -
I can't remember how - that was in 2000. But I know I stumble upon vcdhelp while trying to find out how to create a vcd slideshow...

Like the rest here, I cant remember either. Most probably through yahoo search, when looking for a tool for backing up my dvds. I do remember buying my dvd writer for £300 ($520) at the time. They are really expensive compared to what the prices have dropped to now.
I think I registered a few months after finding this site. -
